The Henry Mancini Awards Will Return Virtually in 2021

The Henry Mancini Awards will return for 2021 as a virtual celebration of high school musical theatre in Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer Counties on Saturday, May 22 at 7:00 PM.

With many schools unable to produce traditional in-person musicals this year due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center has created the first online event in the program's 27 year history. Rather than the traditional awards ceremony, this year's Mancinis will recognize the efforts of the 18 participating schools whether they are producing a full show, a musical review, or simply applauding the efforts of last year's shows which most were not able to perform.

"Although we are not able to gather in person for the 2021 Mancini Awards, we are excited to share a virtual iteration of this most important evening to recognize the achievements of our participating programs," says Justin Fortunato, Lincoln Park's Producing Artistic Director. "The resourcefulness and work ethic of these high schools is incredible under usual circumstances, and during the hurdles of this past year, the students, parents and guardians, and teachers have once again raised the bar when it comes to ingenuity in arts education."

This year, no group categories will be awarded and school productions will not be adjudicated by a panel of independent judges. The competition component will only include awards for Best Actor and Best Actress.

As in years past, through a partnership with Pittsburgh CLO, the Best Actor and Best Actress Mancini Award winners will join students from across the country in professional development and arts education as part of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards). This year's Jimmy Awards will be held virtually and broadcast nationwide this summer.

In addition to being a Jimmy Award nominee, the Mancini Best Actor and Best Actress winners will each receive the Phil Inman Best Actor/Best Actress Award Scholarship, a cash scholarship used in pursuit of their arts education.

Founded in 1994, The Henry Mancini Awards have been a program of Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center since 2014. Details on how and where to stream the free online Mancini Awards will be available in the coming weeks.
