Point Park University's Conservatory Theatre Co. Presents CAROUSEL 11/6-15

Point Park University's Conservatory Theatre Company presents the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, Carousel, at the Pittsburgh Playhouse Nov. 6, 2009 through Nov. 15, 2009. A preview performance is open to the public on Thurs., Nov. 5; the play is directed by Jack Allison with music direction by Tim Marquette and choreography by Mark Esposito. Carousel is sponsored by The Tomayko Group, LLC.

Carousel is the magnificently moving story of love, loss and redemption. Carousel broke the mold with its gritty and courageous look at relationships, telling the gripping story of Billy Bigelow's romance with Julie Jordan, his sudden downfall and his ultimate path to redemption. Told beautifully through unforgettable moments and some of the most moving and celebrated songs ever written, Carousel has been heralded as one of the best musicals of our time.

Carousel premiered on Broadway in 1945 and ran for 890 performances. The 1994 Broadway revival won five Tony Awards and five Drama Desk Awards. The object of a number of revivals, tours and a film, Carousel was named by Time Magazine as the best musical of the twentieth century.

In addition, Carousel was the first production Allison directed during his tenure as a resident director at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera.

Carousel opens Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009. Performances will be held Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets range in price from $18 to $20 and can be purchased by calling the Pittsburgh Playhouse box office at 412-621-4445 or online at www.pittsburghplayhouse.com. The performance on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. is "pay what you will." Patrons may come to the box office beginning at noon (that day only) to name the price for their ticket ($1 or more). Tickets are subject to availability and offered on a first come, first serve basis.
