THE GLASS MENAGERIE opens Tuesday, September 15 at the Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown. Sandy Duncan heads the production as family matriarch, Amanda Wingfield. Starring opposite her are her real life son Jeffrey Correia as Tom, Jennifer Blood as Laura and Joseph Domencic as the Gentleman Caller. The show runs through September 27. Guy Stroman directs.

Tennessee Williams' THE GLASS MENAGERIE is widely considered one of the great American classic dramas that countless high school and college students have been compelled to read. "For this reason, the normal Playhouse schedule changes with the addition of several matinees enabling students from the region to see this very special production featuring a major star of stage, film and television," explains Producer Teresa Stoughton Marafino. Student and youth tickets are just $8 for any performance.

Williams' play, filled with autobiographical symbolism of his own family's relationships, tells the story of Tom Wingfield, his mother Amanda and his sister Laura, who as a shy young woman attracts few suitors, to the chagrin of her mother Amanda. When Tom relents to his mother's requests and brings home Jim, a potential suitor from his job at a local warehouse, Laura learns that he is actually a man she once had a deep affection for as a schoolgirl. The evening involves a furtive kiss, a slow dance, and a broken glass unicorn that comes to symbolize the loss that underscores this aching memory play.

Director Guy Stroman says even if you have read THE GLASS MENAGERIE or have seen a previous show on stage it is worth the drive to see the Mountain Playhouse production. "Sandy Duncan brings a fresh perspective and a humorous dimension to Amanda Wingfield, the matriarch of the family and fading Southern Socialite. As the play unfolds, the onstage tension between mother and son is even more passionate knowing that Sandy and Jeffrey are mother and son in real life," says Stroman.

THE GLASS MENAGERIE runs September 15-27 with ticket prices ranging from $15-$32 depending on matinee or evening performance, and seat location. Group discounts are available. Student tickets are $8 for every performance. School groups can still book any performance by calling Group Sales at 814-629-9201 ext. 105. Tickets can be ordered online at MountainPlayhouse.org or by calling 814-629-9201, Option 1.  An opening night reception will follow the first evening performance on Thursday, September 17 when the audience will have the opportunity to meet Ms. Duncan along with the entire cast and crew.

Following THE GLASS MENAGERIE (September 15-27), the fall season concludes with SISTER STRIKES AGAIN! LATE NITE CATECHISM 2 (September 30-October 11).
