Jones, Reddy et al. Lead City Theatre's WHEN JANUARY FEELS LIKE SUMMER

Full casting has been announced for the upcoming production of Pittsburgh's City Theatre's WHEN JANUARY FEELS LIKE SUMMER by Cori Thomas. The cast will include John Marshall Jones (Joe), Gita Reddy (Nirmala), Carter Redwood (Jeron), Joshua Elijah Reese (Devaun), and Debargo Sanyal (Ishan).

WHEN JANUARY FEELS LIKE SUMMER features homeboys becoming heroes, a gallant garbage man rescuing a shopkeeper in distress, Ishan transforming into Indira with the swipe of a lipstick, and unexpected love heating up the new year in this culture-colliding comic whirlwind. A hit at both Momentum 08 and Sundance, When January Feels Like Summer now receives its world premiere at City Theatre.

City Theatre has been described as Pittsburgh's most adventurous theatre. City Theatre specializes in new plays and has brought to Pittsburgh playwrights such as Adam Rapp, Christopher Durang, and Jeffrey Hatcher. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Tracy Brigden, Managing Director Greg Quinlan, and a 45-member Board of Directors, City Theatre's mission is to provide an artistic home for the development and production of contemporary plays that engage a diverse audience.

Performances for WHEN JANUARY FEELS LIKE SUMMER begin March 26th and run through April 11th, with performances taking place Tuesday at 7:00pm, Wednesday through Friday at 8:00pm Saturday at 5:30pm and 9:00pm, and Sunday at 2:00pm. Since Tracy Brigden's first season (2001-02), City Theatre has commissioned and produced plays by Adam Rapp (Gompers), Christopher Durang (Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge) and Squonk Opera (Burn), and produced world premieres by Jeffrey Hatcher (Mercy of a Storm), Michele Lowe (String of Pearls), and Leslie Ayvazian (Lovely Day). City Theatre also introduced the new play festival MOMENTUM: new plays at different stages, which has brought to Pittsburgh playwrights such as Lee Blessing and Steven Dietz.

City Theatre's facilities include the 270-seat mainstage, the 100-seat Lester Hamburg Studio, and the Charles Morris Building, which houses rehearsAl Halls, and costume, prop, and paint shops. In 2004, City Theatre purchased a former steel rolling plant across from the theatre that more than doubles available space. In the coming years the land will be developed, first for theatre parking, and then for uses still to be determined.

A professional not-for-profit performing arts organization, City Theatre operates under an agreement between the League of Resident Theatres and Actors' Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States. City Theatre is a constituent of Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for the American Theatre.
