Scottsdale Center's Restrooms Named One of America's Best

By: Aug. 02, 2011

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts' high-tech restrooms are earning rave reviews.

Praised for their modern, eco-friendly design, the Center's restrooms are one of 10 finalists in the 2011 America's Best Restroom Contest, sponsored by Cintas Corporation. The public is invited to cast a vote for the Center at www.BestRestroom.com. Voting ends on Sept. 19, and the winner will be announced in the fall.

The Center's restrooms were renovated in 2005 by award-winning Scottsdale architect John Douglas as the first phase of a multi-year renovation of its theater and atrium. Inspired by Scottsdale's mid-century modern heritage, the restrooms feature terrazzo flooring, glass-tiled walls and a generous number of spacious, stainless-steel stalls that offer maximum privacy. An ingenious lighting system continually shifts the colors of the space from cool blues and greens to warm golds and reds, evoking the beautiful landscape and brilliant skies of the surrounding Sonoran Desert. Both men's and women's restrooms are fully accessible and include changing stations and environmentally friendly, low-flow faucets and toilets to conserve water.
