Manila, Philippines--"MAYNILA SA MGA KUKO NG LIWANAG, The Musical is about love that will go the distance, the loss of innocence, and why in a dark, downtrodden jungle that is the big city, pure love is not given room to thrive," its synopsis partially says.

Arman Ferrer (Julio Madiaga), Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, (Ligaya Paraiso), and Lara Maigue (Ligaya Paraiso) lead the cast of the stage musical adaptation of Edgardo Reyes' novel "Maynila sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag" (Manila in the Claws of Light), which inspired the Lino Brocka classic film version that starred Bembol Roco and Hilda Koronel.

Also joining the cast are Floyd Tena (Pol), Noel Rayos (Atong), Rafa Siguion-Reyna and Joseph Puducay (Imo), Aicelle Santos and Rita Daniela (Perla), Jim Pebanco and Joseph Billezar (Mr. Balajadia), Khalil Kaimo (Gido), Jeffrey Camanag (Omeng), Romcel Binquis (Benny), Randy Rey (Frank), and Dulce and Ima Castro (Mrs. Cruz).

Directed by Joel Lamangan, artistic director of Gantimpala Theater Foundation, this original Filipino musical, presented by Grand Leisure Corporation, gathers Von de Guzman, composer and musical director; Jose Victor Torres and Em Mendez, librettists; Joey Nombres, lighting designer; Douglas Nierras, choreographer; Jun Flavier Pablo, production designer, and Fullhouse Asia Production Studios Inc., line producer.

Performances are set for September 30, 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. (gala), October 1, 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., October 4, 8:00 p.m., October 5, 8:00 p.m., October 6, 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., at the KIA Theatre -Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City.
