Fiesty actress Cherie Gil continues to win rave reviews and standing ovations as she reprises her role as the fading opera diva Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's Tony award-winning play "Master Class".

The Silliman University Cultural Affairs Committee and the Philippine Opera Company bring "Master Class" to Dumaguete City, a Philippine province of Negros Oriental, over the weekend.  Ms. Gil performs alongside Florence Aguilar (Sophie de Palma), Juan Alberto Gaerlan (Anthony Candolino), Ana Feleo (Sharon Graham), Francis Amora (pianist), and Chino Veguillas (stagehand).  Michael Williams directs.

Here are some official photographs taken on Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium at the Silliman University.

In its 12th year, The Outstanding Filipino American Awards (TOFA), founded by journalist Elton Lugay, were still brimming with historic firsts. From the Carnegie Hall on 56th Street, TOFA’s venue has moved down 13 streets to the Town Hall. TOFA has also launched its newest sets of excellence in leadership awards: the Lifetime Achievement Awards, endorsed by President Joe Biden, and the Global Awards. Remarkably, it was also the first time an incumbent mayor of the city has physically graced a Fil-Am event.
