The Wilma Theater announces the extension of its current theatrical run of Becky Shaw by Obie Award-winning playwright and "Law & Order" television producer and writer Gina Gionfriddo. By popular demand, the Philadelphia debut of Pulitzer Prize finalist Becky Shaw has been extended through February 7 with the addition of seven performances (a full list of dates and times follows in the fact sheet below).

Becky Shaw has been hailed as one the top 10 stage shows of 2009 by Entertainment Weekly and The New York Times. Howard Shapiro of The Philadelphia Inquirer lauds The Wilma Theater's production as "sizzling" and calls it "wickedly funny, or sometimes just funny. And sometimes just wicked." He also writes, "Under Anne Kauffman's direction, every detail at the Wilma is nailed meticulously in place. That includes not only the performances, but also Mimi Lien's ingenious revolving set... It's all in Gionfriddo's vision and the way she maneuvers it, and in the high bar this production sets, then reaches."

In Becky Shaw, Suzanna decides to set her best friend Max up on a blind date with her husband's mysterious co-worker, Becky Shaw, setting into motion a series of cataclysmic events forever changing all of their lives. Fresh from its critically acclaimed premiere at the 2008 Humana Festival and its extended Off-Broadway run at Second Stage Theatre last year, the production is directed by Obie Award-winning guest director Anne Kauffman and features Brooke Bloom, Jeremy Bobb, Janis Dardaris, Armando Riesco, and Danielle Skraastad.

Playwright Gina Gionfriddo will speak at the Wilma this Sunday, January 10, following the 2 p.m. matinee performance. Admission is free for subscribers and Becky Shaw ticket holders; otherwise $10.

Previously set to close on January 31, 2010, seven performances from February 2 - February 7, 2010 have been added. Tickets are $36 - $65 and are available by calling the Wilma Box Office at (215) 546-7824 or online at www.wilmatheater.org. Student tickets are available for $10, depending on date and time, made possible by a grant from PNC Arts Alive.
