SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER Coming to the State Theatre in January

By:
One of the most beloved dance stories of all time in a spectacular new production, Saturday Night Fever is the coming of age tale of young Tony Manero who learns the value of life in 1970's Brooklyn. Relive the tale at the State Theatre on Thursday, January 21st.

Show time is 7:30 PM. Tickets are $55 and $49 and can be purchased by visiting the State Theatre Box Office, 453 Northampton Street, Easton, by calling 1-800-999-STATE, 610-252-3132 or online at www.statetheatre.org. Sponsored by The Morning Call, Bazzini and 100.7 WLEV's "Way Back Lunch". Part of the Butz Celebrates Broadway Performance Series.

Based on the 1977 movie starring John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever is packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees, including "Stayin' Alive," "Night Fever," "Jive Talking," "You Should Be Dancing," and "How Deep is Your Love," in addition to several new songs written especially for this production.

Norman Wexler's 1977 screenplay was inspired by Nik Cohn's 1975 New York Magazine article "Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night" and it focuses on Tony Manero, a Brooklyn youth whose weekend is spent at the local discotheque. There he luxuriates in the admiration of the crowd and a growing relationship with Stephanie Mangano, and can temporarily forget the realities of his life, including a dead-end job in a paint store and his gang of deadbeat friends. In an effort to make it a family-friendly show, many of the film's darker elements, including references to racial conflict, drug use, and violence, were eliminated from the plot.
