Kimmel Center Announces 'A Night of Broadway Stars' Benefit, 5/14

Broadway's leading ladies and gents will join forces with former homeless youth at the Kimmel Center for A Night of Broadway Stars on May 14, 2012 at 6:30pm. This signature charity event sponsored by Covenant House Pennsylvania raises funds that directly benefit our city's homeless youth.

After 6 years of bringing Broadway favorites to Philadelphia, A Night of Broadway Stars has become a must see event for Broadway enthusiasts. Attendees can expect to see their beloved thespians belt out fan favorites and show tunes. Rita Harvey, Craig Schulman and Stephanie Block and have all lent their talents to support homeless youth in the past.

"This is a phenomenal event which showcases the Broadway Stars and the youth of Covenant House in an incredible arrangement of stories and songs. There is no other event like it!" said Cordella Hill, Executive Director of Covenant House Pennsylvania.

The evening will kick off with a cocktail reception, followed by a lively production featuring the Broadway performers. Hosting the show is Neil Berg. Berg is a Broadway lyricist and composer as well as the creator and co-producer of "100 Years of Broadway." Performances will be interwoven with personal, life stories from the former homeless youth who are successfully transitioning through the Covenant House program. Other highlights of the event include a pre-show reception, silent auction, and a VIP post-show reception where guests will have a chance to mingle with the stars!

This year, Covenant House Pennsylvania will honor Daniel Hilferty, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross for his continued support of the Covenant House's mission. Independence Blue Cross has supported the organization for three consecutive years. This is the first year that Covenant House Pennsylvania will present an award to an outstanding corporate sponsor. Independence Blue Cross is a leading health insurer in southeastern Pennsylvania with nearly 3.1 million members nationwide, including 2.2 million in the region.

Deeply committed to our region, Hilferty lends his time and expertise to a number of organizations. He currently serves on the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and on the boards of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, J.J. White Inc., and the Irish Educational Development Foundation. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, Drexel Neumann Academy, and the vice chair of the board of trustees of Saint Joseph's University.

Last year's Night of Broadway Stars event raised more than $200,000 for the thousands of runaway and homeless youth that Covenant House Pennsylvania serves.

This year Covenant House Pennsylvania is hoping to raise $500,000 which will provide funding for operational costs, program development, and aid the organization in continuing to lead the Philadelphia region in street outreach services.
