Players Club of Swarthmore Theater Announces ARSENIC AND OLD LACE, Beginning 10/21

Mortimer Brewster has just dropped in on his aunts to tell them about his engagement, but the poor guy is in for a bit of a shock when he finds out what the ladies have been up to. Abby and Martha may seem sweet, but their idea of hospitality is, well...creative. Audiences have been roaring at Arsenic and Old Lace for six decades - now locals can enjoy it at The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater.

Director Bridget Dougherty of Philadelphia has been asked why she wanted to direct this nostalgic comedy, which is quite a departure from the modern dramas she usually works with. She says, "I really like these characters. I think there is a little bit of Mortimer, Abby, Martha, Jonathan, Einstein, Elaine and even Teddy in every one of us. And, I think that's a good thing."

Dougherty certainly has brought in some heavy-duty talent to bring those characters to life. David DiLiberto of Phoenixville heads up the cast as the exasperated Mortimer. He's joined by Joy Hubbard of Mt. Laurel, NJ; Ruth K. Brown of Elkton, MD; Jim Fryer of Lansdowne; Bill King of Collingdale; Ken L. Locicero of Thornton; Keara M. Piekanski of Media; David Cashell of Springfield; Michael Bloh of Newtown Square; Benjamin Kerr of Drexel Hill; Liam MacDonna of Wilmington, DE; Bill Haburcak of Secane, and PatRick Martin of Havertown.

The theatre will be conducting a food drive from October 27th-30th to benefit PhilAbundance. Anyone bringing a non-perishable food item to one of these performances will receive $1.00 off their ticket price; 5 items or more entitles the donor to a half-price ticket.

There will be a community discussion following the matinee performance on Sunday, October 23rd. Any ticket holders who wish to do so can remain following the performance and chat with the actors and production staff.

Arsenic and Old Lace runs October 21st-23rd, 27th-30th, and November 3rd-5th, 2011, with performances Thu-Sat @ 8pm and Sun @ 2pm. The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater is located at 614 Fairview Road in Swarthmore, PA 19081-just off Route 320. The theater is only minutes from I-95 and Route 476, with the R3 Regional Rail line within walking distance, at The Edge of the Swarthmore College campus. The 300-seat Main stage is fully handicapped accessible. The theater makes assisted listening devices available at no charge and offers plenty of free off-street parking.
