Theatreworks USA, the distinguished family-theater company, brings the musical "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" to Upper Darby Performing Arts Center on December 1 at 7pm. The sixty-minute performance is ideal for children ages 4 years old and up.

Tickets are $10 - $12. UDPAC members save $1. Tickets may be purchased online at www.udpac.org or by calling the box office at 610.622.1189. Upper Darby Performing Arts Center is located at 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue in Drexel Hill.

The family musical written by Catherine Bush was inspired by the poem by Clement Clark Moore, "A Visit with St. Nicholas." The story-line will make believers out of all those who don't buy into the magic of make believe! It's Christmas Eve and Clem has no money to give his family presents, or even to pay his rent. He puts his children to bed, believing there is little hope for a Merry Christmas. "Then out on the lawn there arose such a clatter" and a truly magical night begins that Clem and his family will never forget, complete with visits from the Sugar Plum Fairy, Reindeer, and Santa himself. See Clement Clark Moore's poem brought to life on stage as only Theatreworks USA can. It's pure Christmas magic.

The musical "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" was first produced by the Barter Players of the historic Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va. The Barter Players perform in the current Theatreworks USA tour. The prolific children's theater playwright Catherine Bush is the Playwright-in-Residence at Barter Theatre. Ms. Bush worked with composer Dax Dupuy on this and many other musicals for young people including "Mother Goose: The Musical," "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," "Rudolph," and "Jingle All the Way."

Theatreworks USA is America's largest and foremost equity theatre company for young and family audiences. The company's mission is to create imaginative and sophisticated shows that are entertaining and thought provoking, and to ensure that the shows are accessible to audiences across America including disadvantaged youth and under-served communities. Theatreworks USA supports new work development and many well-known actors got their first Equity job with the company.

The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center is easily accessible from the Main Line, Center City and the Blue Route. Parking is free.

The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center and Upper Darby Summer Stage are jointly sponsored by the Upper Darby School District Board of School Directors and Upper Darby Township Mayor and Council through the Department of Recreation and Leisure Services.
