Over 30 Regional Schools to Participate 2014 FREDDY Awards

The State Theatre in Easton announces the 2014 FREDDY© Awards program, recognizing and rewarding exceptional accomplishments in the production and performance of musical theatre in high schools of Lehigh & Northampton counties and Warren County, NJ. The 2014 ceremony will be broadcast live on WFMZ Channel 69 and wfmz.com on Thursday, May 22nd at 7 PM.

Salisbury Senior High School will present the first FREDDY© musical of the season with Curtains, November 8, 9 @ 7 PM and November 10 @ 2PM in the high school auditorium at 500 E. To date 31 schools have indicated they plan to participate in the 2014 Program, the highest number of schools participating in FREDDY©history. A list of the participating schools is attached and can also be found at http://freddyawards.org/schools .

Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School of Allentown will be joining the program for the first time. The majority of high schools present spring musicals, generally February - May. A complete list of 2014 participating high schools and tickets information will be released in January.

Now in its 12th year, the FREDDY© Awards broadcast has been honored with two regional EMMY Awards, in 2005 & 2011, and has also received 3 additional EMMY Nominations, 6 Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Awards, including the 2008 Award for Outstanding Television Program Designed for Children, and 3 Associated Press Awards for Public Affairs. The 2008 FREDDY© program was the subject of a feature-length film documentary, Most Valuable Players, by Canyon Back Films, Los Angeles. Released in 2010, the documentary is part of Oprah Winfrey Network's (OWN) documentary film club which premiered in 2011 and is now available on Netflix.

The State Theatre invites the Lehigh Valley and Warren County communities to become involved with the FREDDY© Awards by becoming corporate sponsors, through media or promotional support, or by volunteering their time and expertise. Corporations, regardless of size, are encouraged to participate, and corporate sponsorships will be available on many levels.
