Marty's Back In Town tells the story of a Jewish family, led by an old fashioned but dedicated immigrant mother, who fights through the tenement jungle of the Jewish ghetto - overpopulaTed Brownsville, Brooklyn – for the survival of her children. Fast forward 30 years to Manhattan's Park Avenue, the children have grown but are now faced with accepting the oldest son, the black sheep of the family, back into the clan.

The gripping new play encompasses the struggles of life in the Brooklyn Jewish ghetto, yet shows how each member of this hilarious and combative, dysfunctional family survives - dealing with both the animosity and love they feel for each other. Savagely funny, it will bring a smile to your lips and a tear to your eye.

Marty's Back In Town will star award winning veteran actress of film, TV and theater, Sylvia Kauders as 'Mama.' Written and produced by Moorestown, NJ resident Norman Shabel, Marty's Back In Town follows on the heels of his first play, Are the Lights Still on in Paris, which met with rave reviews when it opened at Philadelphia's Plays & Players Theatre in 2007. Norman also produced the off-Broadway production oF Brownsville Revisited.

Norman Shabel is a Rutgers University Law alumni, former assistant prosecutor, and a trial attorney for more than 40 years. Well known as a legal mystery writer, Shabel has authored six novels. His most recent, The Burning Gavel, was awarded one of the top 2010 reads by New York's Beach Book Festival.

Director Barry Brait, who teamed with Shabel for Are the Lights Still on in Paris, is a veteran director and actor of both local and regional theatre productions. An original founder of Philadelphia's Brick Playhouse, Brait helped fledgling playwrights launch many never-produced scripts, which he directed. He has also directed productions at the Society Hill Playhouse, Philadelphia Fringe Festival and Episcopal Academy Community Players, among others.

Marty's Back In Town is An Actors' Equity Special Appearance Contract Production.
