David Beach and Colin McPhillamy are set to star in the U.S. premiere of Ying Tong - A Walk With the Goons by Roy Smiles at The Wilma Theater, February 13-March 16. Directed by Jiri Zizka, the production will also star Steven Beckingham and Ed Jewett.

"The Goon Show" was a popular and influential British radio comedy programme, originally produced and broadcast by the BBC from 1951 to 1960 in the BBC Home Service. The first series, broadcast between May and September 1951, went out as "Crazy People with Radio's Own Crazy Gang: The Goons" as its subtitle. Listeners in the United States were able to hear the show from as early as the mid-1950s when it was carried by NBC. The scripts mixed ludicrous plots with surreal humour, puns, catchphrases and an array of silly and bizarre sound effects. Some of the later episodes feature electronic effects devised by the fledgling BBC Radiophonic Workshop, many of which were reused by other shows for decades afterward

In Ying Tong, Smiles delves into the mind of Goon writer Spike Milligan whose mind cracks from the strain of creating comic genius, and his fellow Goons must scramble to save his sanity.

Beach most recently performed in Opus at Primary Stages, and his Broadway credits include Mamma Mia, Urinetown (original Broadway and off-Broadway cast), and Moon Over Buffalo. Colin McPhillamy spent five seasons with The Royal National Theatre, and has extensive West End, regional, and TV credits.
