Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) announces "Galavant In The Garden," a spring garden party benefiting the theater tonight, May 9, featuring a special preview performance of Tony Award-winning actor Alan Cumming's new one-man show at Dark Hollow Farm, a private Bucks County gentleman's estate.

"We are delighted that this year some dear friends of the Playhouse offered their home and gardens for our spring gala. And when Alan Cumming called looking for a place to try out his new one-man show before its premiere at New York's Cafe? Carlyle this summer, we couldn't resist putting these two very special events together," said Alexander Fraser, Producing Director for the Playhouse.

In addition to Mr. Cumming's performance, guests will be treated to cocktails, a moveable feast, a live auction, and dessert. Tickets range from $250 to $1,000. This year, guests will not only enjoy the garden party on May 9th, but will also receive tickets to the May 30th Opening Night performance and party of the Playhouse's summer season opener: Stephen Sondheim's Company starring Justin Guarini. Among the items to be auctioned are a private dinner for eight at the home of Doylestown Mayor, Ron Strouse; New York City and Philadelphia getaways; a private dinner onstage at the Playhouse; and a walk-on experience at the Tony-Award winning musical Avenue Q with the opportunity to bring three additional friends to witness your theater debut in New York City.

Annually, the Playhouse gala serves as the primary fundraiser for the theater, and all proceeds go towards fulfilling the mission to present first class professional entertainment and regain the Playhouse's historic place in the national theatrical landscape. Sponsorships are available starting at $5,000 and include tickets to the events as well as an array of other benefits. Bucks County Playhouse would like to thank the following sponsors for their support of "Galavant in the Garden:" Gayle Goodman & Jim Searing, Patricia & Adolf Herst, The Tonamora Foundation, Sally & Harlan Weisman, Marvin & Dee Ann Woodall, Greg Kammerer & Fred White, Cathryn & Richard Zega, Joe & Judy Franlin, A Friend of the Playhouse, Kim & Ed Gibbons, David R. Bucks County Playhouse, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, provides the finest theatrical entertainment for visitors and residents of New Hope, Doylestown, Lambertville and the Delaware Valley. Under the direction of Alexander Fraser and Robyn Goodman, its mission is to present first class professional entertainment and regain the Playhouse's historic place in the national theatrical landscape; and to stimulate, support, inspire and celebrate the performing arts via community programs, partnerships and arts education.

Located between Philadelphia and New York, Bucks County Playhouse opened in 1939 in a converted 1790 gristmill after a group of community activists, led by Broadway orchestrator Don Walker and playwright Moss Hart, rallied to save the building. The Playhouse quickly became one of the country's most famous regional theaters, featuring a roster of American theatrical royalty including Helen Hayes, Kitty Carlisle, Colleen Dewhurst, Shirley Booth, Lillian Gish, Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, Bert Lahr, Walter Matthau, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Alan Alda, Tyne Daly, Liza Minnelli and Audra McDonald and remained in continuous operation until December 2010. In 2012, the Playhouse re-opened thanks to the efforts of the Bridge Street Foundation, the nonprofit family foundation of Kevin and Sherri Daugherty, and Broadway producer Jed Bernstein. Terrence McNally's Mothers and Sons, starring Tyne Daly, received its world premiere at the Playhouse in 2013 and opened on Broadway in February 2014, where it was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play. This returned the Playhouse to its roots as an incubator for Broadway, including 1951′s The Fourposter starring Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn, Neil Simon's first play Come Blow Your Horn, and Barefoot in the Park starring Robert Redford and Elizabeth Ashley. The Bucks County Playhouse is located at 70 South Main Street in New Hope, PA.
