2010 FREDDY Awards Recipients Announced

The 2010 FREDDY Awards Ceremony was held May 27th. The award recipients have been announced.

The FREDDY© Awards program is designed to recognize and reward exceptional accomplishments in the production and performance of musical theatre in local high schools. The 3-hour LIVE broadcast includes a stellar opening number, performances by nominated musicals, actors and actresses, and presentation of the 2009 FREDDY© Awards in 21 award categories.

The State Theatre's FREDDY© Awards is the only high school musical awards program in the nation that produces a live television show. The telecast has received numerous broadcast awards, including a 2005 Mid-Atlantic EMMY® for Outstanding Performing Arts Program.

CIVIC THEATRE EMERGING YOUNG DIRECTOR AWARD & INTERNSHIP - New for 2010, this will be awarded to a student director who has an interest in a directing career or avocation and has shown not only aptitude but enthusiasm for the art of directing.

THE ALLENTOWN SWING DANCE SOCIETY - $500 cash award to the school that receives the 2010 FREDDY© for Outstanding Choreography. (given since 2006)

WILSON BLACK TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 scholarship for a student in technical theatre (offered since 2005)

KIWANIS TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - $1,000 to the school that is award the 2010 FREDDY© for Outstanding Stage Crew, to be used towards next year's musical budget. In addition, all other schools nominated in the Outstanding Stage Crew category, will receive a $300 cash award, with any remaining funds being donated directly to the FREDDY© program. (Offered since 2004)

PENNSYLVANIA PLAYHOUSE - $1,000 Cash Award to the recipient of the 2010 FREDDY© for Outstanding Overall Production by a Smaller School. (contributed cash awards since 2005)

MARY V. TURNBACH - $4,000 in cash awards
- $1,000 cash to the school that is awarded the 2010 FREDDY© for Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical (given since 2006)
