Today in 2003, Wicked opened at the Gershwin Theatre, where it is still running. Wicked is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. Wicked tells the story of two unlikely friends, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (the Good Witch of the North), who struggle through opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace. Its original stars included Idina Menzel as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, and Joel Grey as the Wizard. The original Broadway production won 3 Tony Awards and 6 Drama Desk Awards whilst its cast album received a Grammy Award.

When it first played the Pantages in 2005, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. WICKED returned two years later to begin an extended engagement that would go on to run two years, becoming one of the longest-running Broadway musicals in L.A. history.

In honor of its 8th Anniversary on Broadway, the blockbuster musical Wicked treated its fans to a special 'Ultimate Encore' performance on Sunday, October 30th. Over 10,000 Wicked fans cast their votes online for their favorite song from the musical to be performed by the current Broadway cast for this one-time-only performance following this Sunday's matinee. The 'Ultimate Encore' performance was broadcast worldwide over Facebook that evening at 9pm for Wicked fans across the globe and features appearances by WICKED alumni, composer Stephen Schwartz & More!

Broadway's current Elphaba (Mandy Gonzalez), Glinda (Katie Rose Clarke) and the cast of WICKED surprised the 5 millionth Broadway audience member at the smash-hit musical on September 29. The winner was surprised during the matinee curtain call and presented with the Key to the Emerald City in addition to additional prizes. ABC Family premiered 'Huge' on Monday, June 28th, at 9 pm ET/P starring Nikki Blonsky from the movie adaptation of Hairspray. This new series is developed by Winnie Holzman ('Wicked,' 'My So-Called Life,' 'Once & Again') and her daughter Savannah Dooley. Blonsky stars as Willamina aka Will, an opinionated, sardonic non-conformist who is not happy that her parents sent her to Camp Victory, a weight loss camp run by Dr. Rand, played by Gina Torres ('Firefly'). The cast also includes Hayley Hasselhoff as Amber, Zander Eckhouse as George, Stefan Van Ray as Trent, Harvey Guillen as Alistair, Ari Stidham as Ian, Raven Goodwin as Becca and Ashley Holliday as Chloe. The 2010 Olivier Awards will take place on 21 March 2010 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, with Spring Awakening, Enron, Jerusalem and A Little Night Music among the standouts of the season with the most nominations. The Laurence Olivier Awards were established in 1976 as The Society of West End Theatre Awards, and Lord Olivier agreed to have his name associated with them in 1984. The Awards are run by The Society of London Theatre but are adjudicated by panels that are equally made up of members of the theatregoing public and experts chosen for their knowledge and professional experience.
