Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, the first New York City Center Encores! production of the season, opens tonight, February 8 at New York City Center, and features Colin Donnell, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Elizabeth Stanley, Betsy Wolfe and Adam Grupper. Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, is directed by James Lapine with music direction by Rob Berman and musical staging by Dan Knechtges. Announced earlier this week was news that Lin-Manuel Miranda will star as 'Charlie' in the upcoming Encores! production of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. New York City Center has just reopened following a historic renovation and modernization with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and star-studded gala last night, October 25 at New York City Center. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg conducted The Encores! Orchestra in the opening number (as a nod to Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, who conducted the New York Philharmonic when City Center opened as a performing arts center in 1943). A BROADWAY CELEBRATION: IN PERFORMANCE AT THE WHITE HOUSE was broadcast nationwide this week on PBS. The sixty-minute television special was emceed by Nathan Lane and includedIdina Menzel, Brian d'Arcy James, Audra McDonald, Chad Kimball, Elaine Stritch, Marvin Hamlisch, Karen Olivo, Tonya Pinkins, Assata Alston and a youth ensemble from the Joy of Motion Dance Center and Duke Ellington School of the Arts, with Danielle Arci and Constantine Rousouli.

Anyone Can Whistle is the final New York City Center Encores! production of the 2009-2010 season and will run for five performances April 8 - 11. The show will be directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw with musical direction by Rob Berman.

Fanny, running February 4 - 7, has music and lyrics by Harold Romeand book by S.N. Behrman and Joshua Logan, and is based on Marcel Pagnol's trilogy Marius, Fanny and Cesar. Fanny will be directed by Marc Bruni and choreographed by Lorin Latarro with music direction by Rob Berman.

The album, featuring Yip Harburg-Burton Lane's score, is being produced by Tommy Kasker of PS Classics. The CD's official release date is February 2, 2010 but pre-orders are being accepted now on the show's official web site for shipping in late January.
