Manhattan Theatre Club reopened its doors today with the first preview of Ruben Santiago-Hudson's Lackawanna Blues, which reopens MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre!

Irish Arts Center and Baryshnikov Arts Center join forces again to present the U.S. premiere of Colin Dunne's Concert, in which he takes on the widely influential Irish fiddle player Tommie Potts' iconic—and notoriously choreographically challenging—1972 album The Liffey Banks, armed with an LP, tape recorder, portable speakers, and sheets of flooring. Choreographed and performed by Dunne, and created in collaboration with director Sinéad Rushe and composer and sound designer Mel Mercier, Concert, which The Irish Times, in a five-star review, described as “warm, funny, respectful, and irreverent,” comes to Baryshnikov Arts Center November 14-16.

On Site Opera (OSO) will present Gian Carlo Menotti's holiday opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, at the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen December 6-8, 2018. In partnership with Breaking Ground, New York City's largest provider of permanent supportive housing for the homeless, performances will feature a chorus made up of community members who have experienced homelessness. Tickets will be free, part of OSO's “Opera Free For All” initiative.

Programming for American Ballet Theatre's 2018 Fall season, October 17-28 at the David H. Koch Theater, was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The season will feature World Premieres by Michelle Dorrance and Jessica Lang, as well as centennial tribute performances of Jerome Robbins's and Leonard Bernstein's Fancy Free. After a smash run last fall, Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) will present MILES FOR MARY, a new play by The Mad Ones. Directed by Lila Neugebauer, MILES FOR MARY received critical acclaim during its fall 2016 run at The Bushwick Starr. Watch the new trailer below!

A hula-hooper uses her body as an axis to spin glowing LED hoops. Her gravity-defying work to maintain the rhythm suggests the human effort required to keep our world from collapsing. Exhibited nightly through December 30th as Times Square prepares for New Year's Eve, the video may also evoke the perpetual turning of time.

Herbert Blomstedt will return to the New York Philharmonic to lead the Orchestra in Beethoven's Symphonies Nos. 7 and 8, Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 24 at 11:00 a.m.; and Saturday, February 25 at 8:00 p.m.

Recently the NYMF production of DEPLOYED the musical gave fans a sneak peek into their rehearsal process. With a soaring pop rock score and set against the epic backdrop of a military base in Baghdad, DEPLOYED follows Emily's emotional journey. Our heroine develops an unlikely friendship with her interpreter, Laila, as she trains Iraqi women. Laila teaches Emily to appreciate others' suffering and to realize the enemy she's fighting is herself. When Emily finally lets go of her inner demons, a secret from the past comes back to wreak its revenge. They cannot forget...but can they forgive?

The Film Society of Lincoln Center presents the 40th Chaplin Award honoring Academy Award-winner Barbra Streisand, this evening, April 22nd, at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. The celebration in honor of the international film legend's groundbreaking career will feature musical performances and film and interview clips culminating in the presentation of The Chaplin Award by President Bill Clinton. The Kitchen Theatre Company's Dance the Night Away party on March 23, 2013 was the most successful fund raising event in the theater's history. A total of $48,000 was raised through ticket sales, corporate sponsorship and individual sponsorships of 'celebrity dancers.' THEATER TALK just celebrated the 88th birthday of the great star Elaine Stritch. Also included in the episode were music director Rob Bowman, and actor Hunter Ryan Herdlicka who appeared with Stritch in 'A Little Night Music' on Broadway. In a freewheeling conversation, Stritch reminisces fondly about a number of people and things of significance including Stephen Sondheim, Bela Lugosi, and the gift basket that Alec Baldwin sent her after she injured her hip.
