As BroadwayWorld reported today, Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, Alex Newell ('Glee'), Merle Dandridge ('Greenleaf'), and Quentin Earl Darrington (Cats) will join the cast of the new Broadway production of Once On This Island, which will play the Circle in the Square Theatre (235 W. 50th street, NYC) this fall.

In honor of the return of Elsie Fest - NYC's first outdoor music festival celebrating stars and songs from the stage and screen - Emmy-nominated composer, musician and actor Darren Criss released his stripped-down rendition of 'I Dreamed a Dream' from the multi-award winning Broadway musical and film, Les Miserables. On this day in 1991, the original Broadway production of Miss Saigon opened, gaining legendary status, critical acclaim, and making a star out of its leading lady, Lea Salonga. 

Regardless of how you know her, you probably love her for it. Since her broadway debut in 1991, Lea Salonga has been melting the hearts of audiences all over the world with her star turns in such shows as MISS SAIGON, LES MISERABLES, ALLEGIANCE, and even her voice work in Disney classics like MULAN  and ALADDIN.

Happy Birthday Claude-Michel Schonberg! Schonberg is best known for his collaborations with the lyricist Alain Boublil. Thier stage musical version of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, which opened at the Palais de Sports in Paris in 1980, opened to acclaim in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987. In 1989, their success continued with the musical Miss Saigon, which starred Lea Salonga and Jonathan Pryce. Schonberg's next project with Boublil was The Pirate Queen, a musical about the 16th century Irish pirate, chieftain and adventuress Grace O'Malley, which opened on Broadway on April 5 2007.

This past Sunday Lea Salonga, who played ANNIE in Manila in 1980 had a chance to duet on 'Maybe' with upcoming ANNIE in Manila star Krystal Brimner.
