Sam Byron Named Harold Clurman Playwrights Division's Playwright-in-Residence for 2015

The Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, has announced that writer Sam Byron was selected to be Playwright-in-Residence for 2015. Previous residents include Dennis Staroselsky, Halley Feiffer, Mia Chung, Anton Dudley, Christina Gorman, Zayd Dohrn, and Peter Nickowitz. Over two hundred writers submitted applications and full-length plays for consideration in the annual merit-based search.

Six Scripts Selected for NNPN's 2014 National Showcase of New Plays in Sarasota This Weekend

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, will produce six new plays in staged reading format at its National Showcase of New Plays, hosted this weekend, November 21-23 in Sarasota, FL by Florida Studio Theatre. A committee of artistic, managing and literary leaders from across the country selected plays by Kevin Artigue, Hilary Bettis, Kristiana Colon, Mfoniso Udofia, and Steve Yockey for the twelfth installment of the Showcase.

Harold Clurman Lab Theater Sets 2015 Season: MACBETH, UNCLE VANYA & More

The Harold Clurman Lab Theater, the professional wing of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting New York City and the Art of Acting Studio Los Angeles, is proud to announce its 2015 season: Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov, directed by Tom Oppenheim, will open on February 5th, 2015 in New York; a contemporary play directed by Don K. Williams, will open Janaury 22nd, 2015 in Los Angeles; Macbeth by William Shakespeare, directed by Don K. Williams, will open in May of 2015 in Los Angeles; a world premiere of a new play, developed by the Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, will open in June of 2015 in New York; and Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov, directed by Tom Oppenheim, will open in September of 2015 in New York.

GRAND CONCOURSE Opens Tonight at Playwrights Horizons

Playwrights Horizons' world premiere production of GRAND CONCOURSE, a new play by playwright and two-time Obie Award-winning actress Heidi Schreck (author of There Are No More Big Secrets, Creature, Showtime's 'Nurse Jackie'), opens tonight, November 11, 2014.

Dominique Morisseau's SKELETON CREW and Martyna Majok's IRONBOUND Win MTC's 2014 New American Play Prizes

Marin Theatre Company artistic director Jasson Minadakis, managing director Michael Barker and director of new play development Margot Melcon announced today the winners of MTC's two new American play prizes, a program now in its seventh year. Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau won the 2014 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize and Martyna Majok won the 2014 David Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize for her play Ironbound. The winners were selected from over 900 eligible submissions.

Harold Clurman Playwrights Division Reveals Winners of 10-Minute Play Search

The Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, has announced the results of its search for ten-minute plays with social impact. In early 2014, the division sought plays that address issues of the environmental crisis or global violence against women and girls. Over sixty plays were received. Seven of them will be read on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 7pm as part of the Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts, an annual event that highlights the relationship between art and social activism. The cast will be comprised of studio alumni and faculty. The selected plays and authors follow:

San Francisco Playhouse to Open 12th Season with IDEATION

San Francisco Playhouse launches its twelfth season with the world premiere of Ideation, winner of the 2014 prestigious Glickman playwriting award. Ideation, written by Aaron Loeb (First Person Shooter, Abraham Lincoln's Big, Gay Dance Party) and directed by Josh Costello, broke box office records and received critical acclaim during its development process as part of the 2014 San Francisco Playhouse 2014 Sandbox Series.

Harold Clurman Lab to Premiere Dennis Staroselsky's JUST ABOUT CURED, 9/6-18

The Harold Clurman Lab Theater, the professional wing of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, is proud to present the world premiere of Just About Cured by Dennis Staroselsky. Directed by Ian Morgan, Just About Cured will play from September 6 through 18. The cast includes Kate Marie Frank, Marc Menchaca, Marie Polizzano*, Theo Stockman* and John Wodja*. (*Appearing courtesy of Actors' Equity Association. This is an Actors' Equity Approved Showcase.) The Lab Theater's recent work includes the off-Broadway run of Israel Horovitz's Lebensraum and, in Los Angeles, the Ovation-nominated run of Long Way Go Down by Zayd Dohrn.

Playwrights Horizons has announced initial casting for its upcoming 2014/2015 Season. The announcement includes casting for the first two shows of the season: initial casting for BOOTYCANDY, the New York premiere of a new play written and directed by Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (In the Continuum, Antebellum, Insurrection: Holding History); and initial casting for GRAND CONCOURSE, the World Premiere of a new play by playwright and two-time Obie Award-winning actress Heidi Schreck (There Are No More Big Secrets, Creature), directed by Kip Fagan (The Revisionist, Asuncion).

Marin Theatre Company is Accepting Submissions for Two Prizes

Marin Theatre Company Director of New Play Development Margot Melcon announced today that MTC will be accepting submissions for the 2015 David Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize from July 1 - 31, 2014 and for the 2015 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize from August 1 - 31, 2014.

Ars Nova Now Accepting Applications for Play Group 2015

Ars Nova is now accepting applications for Play Group, a vibrant and eclectic group of emerging writers who gather twice a month at Ars Nova to share new work and get peer feedback. The group offers members the chance to develop their plays with peer support; to be inspired by each other's work; to form collaborative relationships; and to build a strong sense of community within Ars Nova. All emerging playwrights are eligible for membership. If selected, new members will be invited to join for a period of two years beginning in January of 2015.

BWW Reviews: MUCKRAKERS Challenges Our Ideas On Personal and Political Boundaries

MUCKRAKERS is a searing examination of modern journalism in an age when nothing seems to be worth keeping private anymore. In the play, the two characters caught up in the political espionage drama are Mira, a young female activist who brings Stephen, a famous and slightly older British political journalist, home to her Brooklyn apartment to spend the night. But as they start to expose each others secrets, personal and political desires collide, testing the limits of privacy in the modern world.

Aurora Theatre Company Now Accepting GAP Submissions

Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company has announced a call for submissions for its 10th anniversary season of the Global Age Project (GAP) festival of new works. The company will choose three new plays to be presented as staged readings with professional directors and actors during the GAP festival in February and March of 2015; the festival will coincide with the company's fully-staged Bay Area Premiere of Nicky Silver's (Pterodactyls, Raised in Captivity) scathingly funny Broadway hit THE LYONS, directed by Barbara Damashek (American Buffalo, Fat Pig, Private Jokes, Public Places). Each of the three prizewinners will receive a $1,000 award and their work will be considered for further development and production during Aurora Theatre Company's regular season; out of town artists will receive travel and accommodation expenses. The submission period opens June 2; deadline for play submission is July 15, 2014. Finalists will be announced in early December 2014. Aurora Theatre Company is excited to offer online script submission for the GAP. Playwrights may upload their submissions directly to Aurora Theatre Company's website at www.auroratheatre.org; there is a $20 submission fee per play manuscript.
