The San Diego Opera's AIDA served Verdi's marvelous score without the usual extravagant sets and throngs of spear-carrying tunic led Egyptian soldiers. Although that conceded a bit of excitement, especially during the triumphal march scene, exceptional singers and musicians held the audience's attention from the mood-setting overture to the exquisite beauty of the closing duet.

San Diego Opera's Season Opens Next Month With The Company Debut Of Michelle Bradley As AIDA

Verdi's beloved opera Aida opens San Diego Opera's 2019-2020 season in an entirely new theatrical performance utilizing set elements, costumes, lighting, and featuring the San Diego Symphony and San Diego Opera chorus onstage, alongside some of the greatest interpreters of Verdi's music performing today. Aida opens on October 19, 2019 for four performances. Additional performances are October 22, 25, and 27 (matinee), 2019.

Museum Of Arts And Design Presents Retrospective Of American Fashion Designer Anna Sui

From September 12, 2019, through February 23, 2020, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will present a major retrospective of the iconic American fashion designer Anna Sui. Opening during New York Fashion Week, the exhibition features seventy-five looks from the designer's archive-from the groundbreaking inaugural fashion show of 1991 to her Spring 2019 collection-and illuminates Sui's creative process and influences that contribute to her signature aesthetic sensibility.

The best thing about the day was that it was Barbra Streisand. She's a legend and she knows it. Her presence is very impressive and she thrives on the love that radiates from the crowd. The 65,000-strong audience were all there to see her and the other artists were a bonus.

Lyric Opera Of KC Presents THE PEARL FISHERS At Kauffman Center

Lyric Opera of Kansas City concludes the 2018-2019 season with Bizet's sensuous and exotic The Pearl Fishers, April 27, May 1, 3 and 5 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Academy Of Art University To Host 2018 Graduation Fashion Show And Awards Ceremony

The School of Fashion at Academy of Art University will host its annual Graduation Fashion Show and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 26, 2018. The invitation-only event begins with select graduating students from the M.F.A. and B.F.A. programs presenting their work to industry professionals. The programs include: fashion design, textile design, knitwear design, 3D design and pattern making, costume design, journalism, styling, product development, visual merchandising, fashion merchandising, and fashion marketing. The fashion show portion of the event will include womenswear, menswear and childswear collections; several of the collections were created through collaboration by students within the fashion, knitwear and textile design programs.

Houston Grand Opera Will Premiere THE PHOENIX in 2018-19 Season; Full Line-Up Announced!

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will present its 2018-19 season in its creative home at Houston's Wortham Theater Center after a year of displacement due to damage to the building from Hurricane Harvey. The 64th season will open October 19, 2018, with HGO's first performances in 20 years of Wagner's romantic ghost story The Flying Dutchman, in a new production featuring baritoneAndrzej Dobber as the Dutchman and the role debut of award-winning American soprano and HGO Studio alumna Rachel Willis-S rensen as Senta. To close the season, the new Kasper Holten production of Mozart's Don Giovanni featuring the HGO debut of baritone Philippe Sly in the title role and the role debut of soprano Ailyn P rez as Donna Anna will be presented in repertory with The Phoenix, a world premiere about the colorful life of Lorenzo da Ponte, Mozart's librettist for the masterful Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, and Cos fan tutte. The new work, written by composer Tarik O'Regan and librettist John Caird, will star renowned baritone Thomas Hampson as Lorenzo da Ponte in a belated HGO debut and bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni as Da Ponte's son, Lorenzo. HGO will also present a revival of Daniel Cat n's ethereal Florencia en el Amazonas with internationally acclaimed soprano and HGO Studio alumna Ana Mar a Mart nez in the title role; the first HGO presentation of Bizet's The Pearl Fishers with the stellar tenor and baritone pairing of Lawrence Brownlee and Mariusz Kwiecien in the title roles along with soprano Andrea Carroll; and the return of HGO's 2012 production of Puccini's perennial classic La boh me, featuring the role debut of soprano and HGO Studio alumna Nicole Heaston as Mim .

Lyric's THE PEARL FISHERS Opens Sunday, 11/19

From the composer of Carmen, Lyric Opera of Chicago presents Bizet's The Pearl Fishers. Characterized by tropically hued costumes and colorful sets, this new-to-Chicago production promises high drama and gorgeous music conducted by Sir Andrew Davis and directed by Andrew Sinclair.

Sunyoung Kim and Ute Van Der plaats Win the Second Annual LOOT Acquisition Prize

Shannon R. Stratton, Chief Curator of the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), and Barbara Paris Gifford, Assistant Curator, announced on Monday night that art jewelers Sunyoung Kim and Ute van der Plaats have been awarded the second annual LOOT Acquisition Prize, on the occasion of the seventeenth edition of LOOT: MAD About Jewelry. LOOT presents a cross section of the most exciting cutting-edge art jewelry designs, while offering the public a rare opportunity to purchase pieces from and to meet some of the most skilled creators in the field. This year's prize will result in the acquisition of two jewelry works, Kim's Theme and Variation necklace and van der Plaats' In Between Days ring, for the Museum's collection.
