Hoff-Barthelson's Spring Benefit to Feature World-renowned fFutist Carol Wincenc, 4/23

Hoff-Barthelson Music School's Annual Benefit Recital and Reception, the School's largest fundraising event of the year, takes place on Sunday, April 23, 2017, and features a recital by Carol Wincenc, one of today's greatest flutists, accompanied by the brilliant, young pianist Bryan Wagorn. Wincenc and Wagorn will perform works by Copland, Mozart, Debussy, and Fauré. Hoff-Barthelson flute students, faculty and alumni will join the pair for the final number—a lively baroque concerto for five flutes that will showcase Hoff-Barthelson's musical community at its finest. The event will be held in the recital hall of the CV Rich Mansion, a gorgeous Italianate Villa and begins with an intimate pre-concert reception for ticket holders at the Sponsor and Benefactor levels. Funds raised ensure that Hoff-Barthelson can continue to provide the very best music education to our students and guarantee that our programs remain accessible through financial aid and outreach.

Cantata Singers 2016-17 Season Opens with US Premiere

Cantata Singers' 2016-2017 season opens on October 15th at NEC's Jordan Hall with a concert featuring two Bach cantatas, and the virtuosic "Laetatus sum" for solo voices by Czech Baroque composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. Bach's Cantata 109, "Ich glaube, lieber Herr, hilf meinem Unglauben," examines the inner conflict between doubt and faith with deeply engaging, intricately woven music. The fiery finale sets one of the most famous of Lutheran hymns, "Durch Adams Fall," to music. The radiant and richly expressive Cantata 147, "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben," features what has become some of Bach's most famous music (known colloquially as "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"). eweddle@cantatasingers.org
