JACK Quartet, Miranda Cuckson, Vox n Plux and More Perform World Premieres at The Italian Academy Tonight

The Italian Academy hosts the inaugural concert of *The Stefan Wolpe Fund featuring world premieres and works by Charles Wuorinen, Jonathan Dawe, Matthew Greenbaum and William Anderson tonight, October 30th at 8pm. Also on the program, a New York premiere for string sextet by Charles Wuorinen. Featured artists: JACK Quartet, pianist Steven Beck, Vox n Plux, violist Miranda Cuckson and cellist Jay Campbell. This concert was produced by Zaidee Parkinson and Alanna Maharajh Stone with generous support from *The Roger Shapiro Fund for New Music.

Mimesis Ensemble to Play Carnegie Hall, 10/27

The Mimesis Ensemble presents 'Beyond Boundaries,' a program featuring vocal works with a social commentary. The concert will explore songs from the 20th and 21st centuries which examine topics ranging from the ancient story of Gilgamesh, the Americanization of Japan in the 1850's to the Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's.

The series-now in its seventh year at Carnegie-has garnered a reputation for its creative and diverse programming, with frequent collaborations between Yale's distinguished faculty and its exceptional network of current students and alumni.

Photo Flash: CSO Opens Season with Mahler's RESURRECTION Tonight

In Mahler's mighty 'Resurrection' symphony, he dramatically addresses life-and-death issues as only he could-'one is battered to the ground and then raised on angels' wings to the highest heights.' CSO Music Director Jean-Marie Zeitouni opens the 2013-14 season by leading the Columbus Symphony Chorus, featured guest vocalists Dominique Labelle (soprano) and Sasha Cooke (mezzo-soprano), and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, including an off-stage brass ensemble echoing the last judgement from another world. This will also be the official debut of Jean-Sebastien Roy as the CSO's new concertmaster.

NYC Arts Organizations to Honor Benjamin Britten, 10/19-20

Three NYC arts organizations specializing in song and chamber music are teaming up in October to present a weekend-long celebration of the vocal works of Benjamin Britten, who would have turned 100 years old this year. Five Boroughs Music Festival (5BMF), The Casement Fund Song Series, and Brooklyn Art Song Society (BASS) have assembled a massive roster of exceptional vocalists and pianists, including renowned collaborative pianist Malcolm Martineau, who will present a total of five programs over a two-day span.
