BWW Review: THE MAGIC FLUTE at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre

New Zealand Opera's new production of Mozart's final opera The Magic Flute is an absolute delight. The Magic Flute (or Die Zauberflote) tells the story of Prince Tamino's quest for his Princess Pamina through a fairytale dream-world where she is held captive by the wizard Sarastro. Aided by his impulsive companion Papageno and the magic flute given to him by The Queen of the Night, he sets off to rescue her and face the challenges set for him by Sarastro and the mysterious brotherhood.

Wendy Beckett's A BETTER PLACE Heads Off-Broadway This Spring

The Directors Company, in association with Pascal Productions, will present A BETTER PLACE, a new work by playwright Wendy Beckett (Anais Nin: One Of Her Lives, A Charity Case) and directed by Evan Bergman (Love Therapy), will play a limited six-week engagement this spring at The Duke on 42nd Street, a NEW 42ND STREET project (229 West 42nd Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues).

Geraint Wyn Davies Joins Red Bull Theater's THE MALCONTENT

Red Bull Theater today announced that their Twelfth Season will continue with John Marston's THE MALCONTENT, directed by Derek Smith, featuring Geraint Wyn Davies along with the previously announced Matthew Rauch ('Banshee'), four-time Academy Award nominee Marsha Mason, Kelley Curran, Clifton Duncan, Cameron Folmar, Christopher Innvar, Rachel Mewbron, Christina Rouner, Rocco Sisto, Susanna Stahlmann, and Nathan Wilkenstein. 

Stratford Festival's KING LEAR, ANTONY & CLEOPATRA and KING JOHN to Air on CBC-TV, Beginning Sunday

The Stratford Festival comes to CBC-TV this September with spectacular performances of KING LEAR, ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA and KING JOHN, captured live in HD and presented uninterrupted. These productions are the first in the Stratford Festival HD initiative, which will see all of Shakespeare's plays filmed over the next 10 years, making them available to audiences nationwide and around the world.

Directed by Gary Griffin, and featuring many stellar performances, Shakespeare's perspective of this historic relationship is brought to life.

Martha Henry to Receive Stratford Festival's 2014 Legacy Award

The Stratford Festival will present its 2014 Legacy Award to Martha Henry. Her extraordinary contributions to the Festival and to the performing arts in Canada will be celebrated at a gala at Toronto's Four Seasons Hotel on Monday, September 29.
