BLACKEN THE BUBBLE Makes World Premiere at HSA Theater, 10/13

Producing theater companies Liberation Theatre Company, Woodie King Jr.'s National Black Touring Circuit, and SOUL PROductions have teamed up to present Eric Lockley's hilarious affirmative action comedy, Blacken The Bubble at The HSA Theater (645 Saint Nicholas Avenue). Blacken The Bubble will begin preview performances October 11, 2012 and will officially open October 13, 2012 at 7:00 pm.

DREAMS HEAVIER THAN AIR Plays Castillo Theatre Tonight, 8/27

The Castillo Theatre continues its presentation of four winning scripts from the 2012 Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Play Contest, selected from more than 200 entries including submissions by playwrights from around the world. The plays are being directed by distinguished theatre professionals and the final production plays tonight, August 27 at 7:00 p.m.

The Castillo Theatre is presenting four winning scripts from the 2012 Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Play Contest, selected from over 200 entries including submissions by playwrights from around the world. The plays are being directed by distinguished theatre professionals and will be presented on Mondays, August 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 7:00 p.m.

Lillias White and Chuck Cooper to Co-Host AWARD-WINNING JOURNEYS IN BLACK THEATRE, 6/25

The Coalition of Theatres of Color will salute the historic Negro Ensemble Company's 45th anniversary and the acclaimed Audelco Awards for Excellence in Black Theatre's 40th anniversary with 'Award-Winning Journeys in Black Theatre', a special press event by award-winning actors Lillias White and Chuck Cooper on Monday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. Harlem's Con. Charles Rangel's office is presenting a proclamation.

Woodie Kings Jr.'s New Federal Theatre hosts end-of-season presentations of the 2012 ACTING & PLAYWRITING WORKSHOPS. With student acting scenes, monologues and short plays and featuring guest directors and actors, the presentation is tonight, May 23 at 7 p.m. and tomorrow, May 24 at 7 p.m.

The All Stars Project Groundbreakers Awards were presented to Katori Hall, Broadway playwright, for her work in helping to open doors for new voices in the American theatre and Woodie King, Jr., Founder and Producing Director, New Federal Theatre for his pioneering efforts and outstanding accomplishments in Black theatre. Katori Hall's play Children of Killers will make its American premiere at the Castillo Theatre in September 2012. Groundbreaker Awardees also included David C. Banks, President and CEO, Eagle Academy Foundation, Valerie and William Bell, Founders, Sean Elijah Bell Community Center and Anderson J. Franklin, Ph.D. Honorable David S. New Federal Theatre Presents 2012 Acting & Playwriting Workshops, 5/23-24

Woodie Kings Jr.'s New Federal Theatre will host end-of-season presentations of the 2012 ACTING & PLAYWRITING WORKSHOPS. With student acting scenes, monologues and short plays and featuring guest directors and actors, the presentation is May 23 at 7 p.m. and May 24 at 7 p.m.

Gilbert Glenn Brown and Alimi Ballard Saluted by Coalition of Theatres of Color

Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center and the Coalition of Theatres of Color (CTC) saluted actors Gilbert Glenn Brown and Alimi Ballard as "Outstanding Alumnus of Mind-Builders" for their remarkable theatre, television and film work in creating positive images for African American youth on April 16 at the Pregones Theatre in the Bronx.

Amas Musical Theatre, Lillias White to Honor B. Smith, 4/2

Amas Musical Theatre will celebrate its 43rd Year with a Gala evening on Monday, April 2th, featuring a special concert by Tony-Winner, Lillias White. The Amas Benefit Event honors the iconic restaurateur, author and transcultural lifestyle pioneer B. Smith with the "Rosie Award." The event takes place at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, East 25th Street between Lexington and 3rd Avenues, at 7pm.

New Federal Theatre's COURT-MARTIAL AT FORT DEVENS Closes

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre, in association with Castillo Theatre, presents Court-Martial at Fort Devensby Jeffrey Sweet at the Castillo Theatre (543 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.). Performances are through April 1st only.

Geva Theatre Center's A Raisin in the Sun Closes

Geva Theatre Center's 2011-2012 Season continues with Lorraine Hansberry's classic play, A Raisin in the Sun, which runs in the Elaine P. Wilson Mainstage through March 25.

STREETCAR's Stephen Byrd Joins TRU Panel Discussions in COLORING THE GREAT WHITE WAY, 3/21

Producer Stephen Byrd of the upcoming revival of A Streetcar Named Desire, and the only African American producer to ever win the coveted British Olivier Award (for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) has just been announced as an addition to the next panel of Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU). This monthly networking panel, Coloring the Great White Way: Bringing Diversity to Commercial Theater, will offer a discussion focused on how to bring more diverse productions and audiences to the traditionally great 'white' way. The panel will take place on March 21 at 7:30pm at the Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street, NYC.
