BWW Reviews: Thrilling Violetta from Sonya Yoncheva Finds the Truth in Met LA TRAVIATA

For the second time in two seasons, casting has made me reconsider a Met production that I'd written off as past its expiration date. The first was Diana Damrau and Javier Camarena in Bellini's LA SONNAMBULA. This time around it's the wonderful Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva, who breathed new life into the Willy Decker LA TRAVIATA. She's a marvel, both as an actress and a singer.

BWW Reviews: With His 'Eyes Wide Open,' Broadway's CHEYENNE JACKSON Gets His Feet Wet in Cabaret at the Café Carlyle

The extremely personable Cheyenne Jackson landed in Cafe Carlyle last night as if on the moon. A hardscrabble, Ohio childhood and late start in the business explain the artist's astonishment at finding himself in the prestigious nightclub. While Jackson's resume includes leading roles in Broadway musicals such as All Shook Up (2004), Xanadu (2007), Damn Yankees (2008), and Finian's Rainbow (2010), he took the Carlyle stage with only one cabaret appearance under his belt so the genre is as unfamiliar to the vocalist as the venue.

The two-week engagement, entitled Eyes Wide Open, takes a personal and humorous look at loss, love, revelation and recovery with music ranging from Louis Armstrong to Lady Gaga. Check out photos from his opening night below!
