A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM Plays At Hermosa Beach Playhouse 5/25-6/6

Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities and Executive Producer James A. Blackman, III proudly present A Midsummer Night's Dream written by William Shakespeare and directed by Ovation Award winner Stephanie A. Coltrin. The show opens with previews May 26, 27, 28 and the Gala Press Opening night will be Friday, March 29 at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse. This is the final show in the 2009/2010 Season for the Playhouse.

The Comedy of Errors (Thu, Fri, Sat - July 1, 2, 3, Fri, Sat, Sun - July 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18) will be directed by Kevin P. Kern, who states 'Shakespeare's first play is also his funniest: Comedy Of Errors is an apt title, especially for this Kingsmen production. We're setting this highly physical, brightly colored slapstick comedy in the world of Commedia de Arte' for maximum laughs and pure family fun.' Kevin is a veteran of the Festival and is currently Assistant Professor of Theatre at The University of West Florida and Artistic Director of The Pensacola Shakespeare Theatre.

William Shakespeare's play adapted by Brian MacInnis Smallwood is directed by Cale Epps. Show time is 8pm on Thursday, May 6, Friday, May 7 and Friday, May 8. Ohio's Playhouse South, will hold open auditions for William Shakespeare's comedy TWELFTH NIGHT. Auditions will be held at the Clark Haines Theater, 3700 Far Hills Avenue at 7:00 pm on May 17 & 18, 2010 with callbacks being held on May 19, 2010. Performances for TWELFTH NIGHT are July 8 -10, 2010.

That two Lehigh Valley theatres were awarded separate grants from the National Endowment for the Arts signature program, 'Shakespeare in American Communities/ Shakespeare for a New Generation' is unprecedented. Outside major metropolitan areas around the country, no other community the size of the Lehigh Valley has received two grants in one year. Forty non-profit theatre companies across the U.S. won the $25,000 awards.

La Jolla Playhouse announced today an exciting new production for its 2010/11 subscription season: the world premiere musical Little Miss Sunshine. The Tony Award-winning creative team of composer/lyricist William Finn and writer/director James Lapine, who previously collaborated on the Tony Award-winning musicals Falsettos and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, will bring their latest project to the Playhouse. The production will run February 15 - March 27, 2011 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.

New Jewish Theatre Closes New Adaptation of ROMEO AND JULIET, 5/2

The plays of William Shakespeare have been reinterpreted many times over and set in a variety of places and times in order to use Shakespeare's words to tell other stories. Shakespeare has written such universal stories and characters that this can be done without changing the heart of the story. With ROMEO AND JULIET NJT does exactly this in order to shed light on history. In the NJT production, the setting is the British Mandate of Palestine in 1947-48 during the struggle to create the Jewish state of Israel. The show will end its run May 2nd.

Laurel Mill Playhouse, 508 Main Street, Laurel, Md. will hold auditions for 23 teenagers on Thursday, April 29 at 7pm and Saturday, May 1 at 10am for this Shakespearean comedy. Director Michael Hartsfield requests the teenagers auditioning have twenty to thirty lines of any monologue from a Shakespeare play prepared for the audition. Memorization is not necessary.
