The Sound It Out 1st Anniversary Hot House Festival & Fundraiser for Greenwich House Music School - taking place Thursday July 18 through Sunday July 21, 2013 - celebrates the first year of the Sound It Out series at Greenwich House, along with raising money for the venerable music school.

Cornelia Street Cafe presents the Mat Maneri Trio featuring Mat Maneri, viola, Ed Schuller, bass and Randy Peterson, drums. This concert will be the 20 year anniversary of this contrapuntal trio who will be playing a collection of music from their past 3 recordings as well as new material. The trio have worked together over the years to try and push the boundaries of what a jazz trio can be, incorporating fresh ways of interpreting modern classical, swing and other forms of music.

Lionel Rolfe and Julia Stein will give a reading at Skylight Books on March 30, 2013 at 5 p.m. (1818 N. Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles). Rolfe will read from his new book, The Misadventures of Ari Mendelsohn, while Stein will read from her What Were They Like? For more information, see this link.

Roulette presents three nights of new music by master musician, improviser, and composer William Parker, tonight, February 14, 15 & 16.

William Parker is a master musician, improviser and composer who The Village Voice calls 'the most consistently brilliant free jazz bassist of all time.' Not formally trained, he studied with other jazz players, developing an unconventional technique based on self-expression and experimentation. His playing is dense, textural, harmonic, lyrical and percussive.

THE MISADVENTURES OF ARI MENDELSOHN: A Mostly True Memoir Of California Journalism, is a picaresque memoir by noted author and journalist Lionel Rolfe as he recounts the sexual and political travails of the irascible, blacklisted title character, a reporter still harboring his besieged idealistic belief in humanity's innate goodness and America's dubious potential for good amid a reality of avarice, pragmatism, cynicism, and materialism.

'Cabaret Emigré' by Sophia Romma, originally scheduled for November 2 to 18, now opens tonight, November 7 and will add performances November 11, 13 and 14 to make up for lost shows due to Hurricane Sandy. This new play, directed by Charles Weldon, is being presented by Negro Ensemble Company at the Lion Theater, Theater Row.

According to TV Line, Frank Darabont's (THE WALKING DEAD) period piece pilot, LA NOIR, is set for a full series on TNT. The network has ordered six episode for its premiere season.

The palimpsestic Series, curated by Oscar Noriega, presents "Angles of Repose" featuring Mat Maneri, Viola, Drew Gress, Bass, Lucian Ban, Piano and Randy Peterson, drums, October 24, 8pm at Barbes, Park Slope Brooklyn. Angles, always presented as a quartet led by Maneri and Ban, will be presenting new music for this performance.

The longest running Zappa repertoire group, Project/Object, returns to the road for a quick tour of the Northeast. The band will be joined by Zappa 's most beloved vocalists: Ike Willis and Ray White, who together and separately toured and recorded with Zappa from 1976-1988. Project/Object's long years of collaboration with Willis and White is testament to their desire to bring Zappa fans' favorite sidemen to the stage as often as possible. Project/Object is unique amongst Zappa tribute bands: they celebrate EVERY era of Zappa's music, not just selected periods.

Mat Maneri Quintet will perform at New York City's Cornelia Street Cafe on Saturday, April 28 and 29 at 10:30pm. Featuring Kris Davis (piano), Oscar Noriega (reeds), Garth Stevenson (bass), Randy Peterson (drums), the show is located at 29 Cornelia Street, New York, NY (A/C/D/B to West 4). Tickets are $25, which includes one drink.

According to Deadline.com, Jeremy Strong has joined the cast of TNT's upcoming pilot LA NOIR. The project will be written and directed by Frank Darabont.
