To delight its community and celebrate the creativity that comes with the season, Theater for the New City (TNC), 155 First Ave., will present its 47th annual Village Halloween Costume Ball October 31. 

With the roster still building, Theater for the New City has currently scheduled over 200 performing arts organizations, independent artists, poets, puppeteers and film makers for its 28th annual Lower East Side Festival of the Arts, which will be mounted May 26 to 28 in and around Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave. (at E. 10th Street). Admission is free but donations will be gratefully accepted.

Emmy Award winning writer, director, and composer William Electric Black, aka Ian Ellis James, assembles 13 actors and musicians to perform the actual Romeo & Juliet Shakespearian text with pop, soul, blues, gospel, hip hop, and rock songs written by William Electric Black. William Electric Black gives his high-energy, high-concept production an immersive touch by bringing the Bard right into the audience's lap.

Theater for the New City (TNC) will emphasize Covid safety in this year's Village Halloween Costume Ball, presenting a hybrid (indoor/outdoor) celebration on October 31 to delight its community, young and old, and to celebrate the creativity that comes with the season. 

La MaMa ETC’s 61st season will feature world-premieres by John Kelly, Erik Ehn, Elizabeth Swados, Witness Relocation/Dan Safer, Bobbie Jene Smith and Ping Chong, along with the live, in-person stage debut of Split Britches’s 2021 digital production LAST GASP and the first-ever revival of Maria Irene Fornes’ EVELYN BROWN.

Theater for the New City has presented its Village Halloween Costume Ball annually since 1976. With safety paramount this year, the fete will take place October 31 as an open-air celebration outside the theater, on East Tenth Street between First and Second Avenues.  A large tent will provide rain protection.
