Free and open to the public, this special event is an entire day full of exciting performances, demonstrations, master classes, exhibits, a concert on the plaza, and kids' activities offered both inside and outside the Signature Theatre complex. Ordinary Days, an acclaimed new musical by Adam Gwon, brings Round House's 2013/2014 season to a harmonious close as it makes its area premiere. Signature Theatre's Matthew Gardiner makes his Round House directing debut with this Off-Broadway hit by one of musical theater's most exciting new composers. Ordinary Days runs at Round House Theatre Bethesda from May 28 thru June 22. Opening night is Monday, June 2, 2014.
Washington theatre will celebrate its highest honors for achievement at the 30th Annual Helen Hayes Awards on Monday, April 21, 2013 at the National Building Museum, co-host of the event. This year's Awards will recognize outstanding performances, designs, direction, and productions in 26 categories, as well as present three special awards to those who have made extraordinary contributions to theatre and Washington. But unlike any other Awards event, the 30th Helen Hayes Awards will marry ceremony and party.

The all-star Summer Hummer burlesque returns for a second triumphant year, with direction by Eric Schaeffer and performances by the best - and bawdiest - talent that Washington stages have to offer. Last year the event raised more than $16,000 for the Taking Care of Our Ownemergency fund, which provides short-term assistance to Washington-area theatre artists in unexpected need. Building on that success, this year's production features an added performance and an astounding line-up of top performers from Washington and Broadway.
When newly-minted Round House Theatre Producing Artistic Director Ryan Rilette announced that Gina Gionoffrido's Becky Shaw would replace another show - selected by his predecessor - in the theatre company's current season, I was pretty interested to see how it would turn out. I had the chance to check out the 2009 New York premiere at Second Stage Theatre and was largely impressed with not only the cast, but the play itself. Not your run of the mill kind of schmaltzy and cutesy romantic comedy, this play veers toward the edgy and dark side while offering valuable insights on human relationships and related boundaries/rules of the road with the help of some richly drawn characters.

In July 2010, Signature Theatre continued its dedication to supporting new voices in the theater by awarding special Next Generation 'honoree grants' to composers Joshua Schmidt (Adding Machine, A Minister's Wife) and Joshua Rosenblum (Einstein's Dreams, Fermat's Last Tango) to develop new works for the theatre - and on December 4th at 8:00pm, both Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Rosenblum will be sharing selections from projects they are currently working on from their commissions.
