Chicago's acclaimed Spectacle company Redmoon kicks off its new "Redmoon INDOORS" Spectacle Series this November with two multimedia events celebrating the ritual of Halloween in fresh, alternative ways, both under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Frank Maugeri and the event direction of Artistic Associate Will Bishop. On Friday, November 1 (All Saints Day), the 3rd annual Boneshaker returns for a 21-and-over night of costumed fun that combines interactive site-specific design and unique contraptions with hours of unexpected entertainment. Immediately following Boneshaker, Saturday and Sunday, November 2-3, Redmoon opens its mammoth 57,000-square-foot Pilsen headquarters for Skelebration, a new event for parents and children to celebrate the fall season and adventure together in Redmoon's exploratory Spectacle playground. Both Boneshaker and Skelebration take place in Redmoon's home at 2120 S. Jefferson Street.
First Floor Theater is pleased to announce its 2013/14 Season, featuring one world premiere, one Chicago premiere, and the return of its annual literary festival. In the fall, FFT takes on Naomi Iizuka's masterful mash-up of Roman myth and documentary theatre with Polaroid Stories, directed by Hutch Pimentel at Red Tape Theatre. In the winter, FFT presents the deathbed meeting of Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe and the Roman emperor Caligula in the Chicago premiere of Nat Cassidy's The Reckoning of Kit and Little Boots, a metaphysical buddy comedy directed by Gus Menary at The Den Theatre. In the spring, Will Bishop & Scott Ray Merchant team up to present the world premiere of Tollbooth: A Clown Show, a clown and object theater piece for all ages. And concluding the season, FFT's Annual LitFest, returns with new works from celebrated Chicago playwrights all based around the work of an author to be selected by the attendees of FFT's season kick-off party.
Following a successful fourth season with productions at Theater Wit and the Athenaeum Theatre, The Ruckus Theater is proud to announce its fifth season in Chicago. Artistic Director Allison Shoemaker and Associate Artistic Director Joshua Davis release today a season of five new plays and workshops. First, Artistic Director Allison Shoemaker takes the helm of a revamped version of The Ruckus' first Chicago production, Heist Play. Through a workshop and development process in 2013, this production has undergone significant rewrites by playwright Mitch Vermeersch and will be performed at The Side Project (Oct. 12- Nov. 10, 2013). The Spring production, The Deer, is penned by Chicago playwright Brooke Allen (Ruby Wilder) and will be directed by Eric Hoff (Hit the Wall). The Deer will be performed at Collaboraction (March 30-April 27, 2014). Additionally, The Ruckus will present three works-in-progress in the late Spring of 2014, including new work Home After Dark by Will Bishop and two pieces to be devised by the company. Called 'enthralling and luminous' by The New York Times, The Elephant Man, directed by Gregory Boyd, runs April 12 through May 5, 2013 on the Hubbard Stage.
