New York Theatre Workshop to Complete 2011-2012 Season with ONCE

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that the new musical Once, based on the Academy Award-winning film, rounds out the theatre's 2011-2012 season.

THE WIZ to Play Leeds & Birmingham this Summer; Cohen, Rowe, Straker et al. Lead Cast

The musical theater classic, The Wiz, the iconic African-American re-telling of The Wizard Of Oz made famous by Motown Productions' cult movie starring Diana Ross as Dorothy, Michael Jackson as The Scarecrow and Richard Pryor as The Wiz, will be revived in a new production that will tour Birmingham and Leeds this summer. In Birmingham, the production will The New Alexandria Theatre from Friday, 10 Jun 2011 through Saturday 18 Jun 2011. From there, the production will play Leeds at the West Yorkshire Playhouse from June 24 through July 16.

World Premiere by Bacharach/Slater, SCOTTSBORO BOYS et al. Set for Old Globe in 2011-2012; Full Season Announced

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced that The Old Globe will produce the World Premieres of four new plays and musicals in its 2011-12 Winter Season. The season will feature the World Premiere musicals Some Lovers by music legend Burt Bacharach and Tony Award winner Steven Sater and Nobody Loves You by Gaby Alter and Itamar Moses, as well as the West Coast Premiere of John Kander and Fred Ebb's The Scottsboro Boys, recently nominated for 12 Tony Awards including Best Musical, directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. The two plays receiving World Premiere productions are Somewhere by Globe Playwright-in-Residence Matthew Lopez and The Recommendation by Jonathan Caren. The new season also includes revivals of Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show and the Eugene O'Neill classic Anna Christie directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner David Auburn. Special events include the World Premiere of Odyssey by Todd Almond, a music theater event conceived and directed by Lear deBessonet celebrating the Globe's 75th Anniversary, The Old Globe/University of San Diego Graduate Theatre Program production of Twelfth Night and Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, which returns for its 14th consecutive year.

Finborough Theater Presents THE ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT

The long overdue London premiere of the Broadway musical The Roar of the Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd, directed by acclaimed West End and RSC director Ian Judge, and designed by three time Olivier Award winner Tim Goodchild, opens for a four week limited season at the Finborough Theatre on Tuesday, 7 June 2011 (Press Night: Thursday, 9 June 2011 at 7.30pm).

Northern Stage And Sheffield Theatres Co-Produce VIRGINIA WOOLF, 3/16-4/30

Northern Stage (formerly Newcastle Playhouse) and Sheffield Theatres today announce their first collaboration, a new production of Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?". The production will be directed by Northern Stage's Artistic Director Erica Whyman. "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" will play at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre (Wednesday 16 March - Thursday 7 April) and then continue to Northern Stage (Tuesday 12 April - Saturday 30 April).

Stephen Fry Among Stars Set for The Great British Musical Fundraising Event at the Criterion Theatre, April 10th

A dazzling array of West End stars will showcase the very best in British Musical Theatre in an evening compèred by the inimitable Stephen Fry. Other stars set to perform on the night include Peter Polycarpou, Michael Xavier, Emma Williams, Hadley Fraser, Paul Keating, Julie Atherton, Steven Webb, Sophia Ragavelas, Jack Shalloo, Dougal Irvine, Jodie Jacobs, John Addison and Stuart Matthew Price.

UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG to Close Early on May 21

The Kneehigh Theatre Company will close its West End production of THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG on May 21 instead of the previously announced October 1 closing. The show opened at the Gielgud Theatre on March 22. Directed by Emma Rice, with lyrics translated by Sheldon Harnick, designs by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Malcolm Rippeth, sound by Simon Baker and musical supervision by Nigel Lilley, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is produced in the West End by Daniel Sparrow and Mike Walsh Productions, Curve Leicester and City Lights International in association with BE MY Productions.

TIGER WHO CAME TO TEA to Make West End Debut in July

Based on the picture book written and illustrated by Judith Kerr and adapted for the stage with songs and lyrics by David Wood OBE, THE TIGER WHO CAME TO TEA will make its West End debut on July 6 , and run through September 4.
