The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces 11 awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its fifth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $37,000 to 11 organizations across the country.
In collaboration with Baldwin Wallace University Music Theatre Program, Beck Center for the Arts presents NEXT TO NORMAL, with music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, and directed by Victoria Bussert, with musical direction by Nancy Maier and choreography by David Zody. There is a recent trend for Cleveland area professional theatres to couple with local university drama programs. Cleveland Play House has married itself to both Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve's MFA programs. Cleveland Public Theatre and Oberlin College have such an agreement. The connection between Beck Center and Baldwin Wallace's nationally ranked musical theatre program, has resulted in not only allowing BW students to appear on a professional stage, and the expansion of the acting pool for Beck, but the production several top notch shows.

Charles Fee, Producing Artistic Director of Great Lakes Theater (GLT), unveiled an ambitious, five-production array of classics to headline the company's 2013-14 season. Great Lakes Theater's fifty-second year is scheduled to run from September 2013 through April 2014 at PlayhouseSquare's Hanna and Ohio Theatres.
