The Tony Awards Administration Committee announced today the Nominating Committee for the 2011-2012 Broadway season. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

Last night, the 2011 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were handed out to recipients in 14 categories and 3 special awards. This year's ceremony will benefit The Actors Fund. BroadwayWorld.com was there to capture the special night including the winners, presenters and performers.

A group of students from Middle School 301 and nearby Trinity Episcopal Church in the Bronx were thrilled to experience their very first Broadway show yesterday when they visited the long-running Disney musical MARY POPPINS at the New Amsterdam Theatre, the New York Daily News reports.

Mr. Naumann, a significant player in New York's theatrical community, leaves his position of Director of Finance at Frankel Green Theatrical Management (FGTM) to join TDF. Prior to his current post, Mr. Naumann served for 20 years as Director of Finance and Administration at Manhattan Theatre Club. He will assume his duties at TDF on May 9.

Jill Furman, Tony® award-winning and two time Tony award-nominated Broadway producer, will be presented The Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award for "outstanding achievement in commercial theatre producing" at a reception at The Glass House Tavern on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony award-winning writer, performer, lyricist, and composer, who wrote and starred in In the Heights, will present the award.

Playwright Michael Lew, on the official YOUNGBLOG blog (the group blog for the Ensemble Studio Theatre of New York's young playwrights) has written an open letter to TDF regarding the news that no Wasserstein Prize will be awarded in 2010 due to the panel not finding a play that they deemed to be 'truly outstanding'.

Mayor Lindsay was a passionate supporter of the Broadway Theatre and was instrumental in the creation of the original TKTS booth with the Theatre Development Fund in 1973, making Duffy Square ever since a destination point for those in search of reduced-price theater tickets. Also in attendance at today's unveiling were State Assembly Member Richard Gottfried; Broadway producer Hal Prince, who is Chair of the Theatre Industry Committee to Honor John Lindsay; as well as leaders of the Times Square Alliance, Theatre Development Fund, Broadway League, Broadway Association, and members of Mayor Lindsay's family.

Theatre Development Fund (TDF), the not-for-profit performing arts service organization, has been named as one of 15 organizations to receive grants from the New York City Theater Subdistrict Council (TSC). TDF will receive $200,000 to continue its 'New Audiences for New York' program, which was launched last year with a $150,000 grant from the TSC.
