The Guthrie's BEHOLD Gala Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Community, Performances

On Saturday night, BEHOLD: A Gala Performance, honoring 50 years of the Guthrie, took place on the theater's Wurtele Thrust Stage before a packed house. The performance featured a glittering array of contributors including actors and artists linked to all aspects of the Guthrie's past and its vision for the future. BEHOLD, the centerpiece of a weekend that captivated the Twin Cities and marked the long and vital relationship between the Guthrie and the community that it calls home, marked the half-century milestone for the flagship of the American regional theater movement that first opened its doors in 1963.

The Guthrie welcomes 17 accomplished local actors and vocalists who have all appeared on the Guthrie's stages during their careers to complete the artist line-up as the vocal ensemble for BEHOLD: A Gala Performance, honoring 50 years of the Guthrie, tonight, June 22, 2013. Accompanied by a 12-piece orchestra helmed by Musical Director Andrew Cooke, the ensemble will perform songs from some of the greatest musicals of all time, in unexpected ways.

Metropolitan Opera Guild to Honor Rise Stevens, 9/18

In the first public event of its 2013-14 season, the Metropolitan Opera Guild will pay tribute to one of the 20th century's great singing legends, Rise Stevens, who died in March at the age of 99, and whose centennial falls today, June 11. Hosted by Frederica von Stade, 'Rise: A Celebration of Rise Stevens' will take place in New York City's Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College on Wednesday, September 18, at 7:30pm.

Photo Flash: Sneak Peek at Stageworks Theatre's TAMPAWORKS, Opening Tonight

TampaWorks is an evening of short plays set in Tampa Bay area locations. This year's TampaWorks is totally a Stageworks production. Playwrights from all over central Florida submitted scripts. The submissions were evaluated by a panel of judges, who chose eight short plays for the production. The production is being sponsored in part by Tucker/Hall, The Tampa Chamber Of Commerce and The Tampa Downtown Partnership. Ashley Rose Montondo Replaces Erin Krakow in Guthrie Theater's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

The Guthrie Theater today announced that Ashley Rose Montondo has joined the cast of its summer production of Pride and Prejudice. She assumes the featured role of Elizabeth Bennet after the sudden departure of Erin Krakow. Montondo steps into her first major role on the national stage, opposite leading man Vincent Kartheiser (television's 'Mad Men') in the role of Mister Darcy. The production is theSimon Reade adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel in the two-hundred-year anniversary of its publication, helmed by Guthrie director Joe Dowling.

Guthrie Theater Appoints Danielle St. Germain-Gordon as New Director of Development

Guthrie Theater director Joe Dowling today announced the appointment of Danielle St. Germain-Gordon as the theater's Director of Development. St. Germain-Gordon comes to the Guthrie from Arena Stage in Washington, DC, where she served as Chief Development Officer since 2011. Prior to that, she spent three years with American Alliance of Museums (AAM) in Washington, DC, most recently as Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

TampaWorks Lineup Announced

TampaWorks is an evening of short plays set in Tampa Bay area locations. The first edition took place in June, 2012. It was a production of the Stagewrights playwriting group and its sponsoring organization, Stageworks Theatre.

Guthrie Announces Added Performances of AN ILIAD, Running thru 6/1

The Guthrie Theater today announced three additional performances added to the lauded run of An Iliad, the single-actor storytelling adaptation of Homer's Greek classic about the siege of Troy, featuring Stephen Yoakam as The Poet and directed by Benjamin McGovern (The Edge of Our Bodies, Circle Mirror Transformation). An Iliad is written by Lisa Peterson (director of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Guthrie in 2012, as well as the upcoming production of Clybourne Park opening in June) and Denis O'Hare from a translation of Homer by Robert Fagles. An Iliad, originally slated to run through May 26, will now run through June 1 with 7:30 performances added Thursday through Saturday, May 30 through June 1, in the Guthrie's Dowling Studio.

Guthrie Offers NICE FISH Play Care Today

The Guthrie's partnership with the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities, Play Care, combining discounted adult theater tickets and affordable child care onsite during select Saturday matinees in the 2012-2013 season, continues today, May 18 with Nice Fish.

Christopher Plummer, Barbara Byrne and More Join Guthrie's 50th Anniversary Gala, 6/22

The Guthrie today announced that eight artists who have graced the Guthrie's stages during its 50-year history, from the first season in 1963 to the theater's current season, are slated to participate in the Guthrie's 50th anniversary on June 22, 2013. Exclusive interviews with the legendary Zoe Caldwell and Christopher Plummer will be unveiled as part of a poignant and celebratory multi-media tribute, while stage veterans Barbara Bryne, Peter Michael Goetz and Stephen Yoakam; two graduates of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program, Matthew Amendt and Valeri Mudek; and an alum of A Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training, Erik Heger; will perform live for the one-night-only event.

Guthrie to Offer NICE FISH Play Care, 5/18; Summer 2013 Dates Announced

The Guthrie's partnership with the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities, Play Care, combining discounted adult theater tickets and affordable child care onsite during select Saturday matinees in the 2012-2013 season, continues Saturday May 18 with Nice Fish. For $10 per child, the YMCA will provide child care in the Guthrie's Learning Center for children ages 4 to 11 while parents attend a matinee performance for $20-$25 (depending on seating area).
