Mark Rylance, Jim Lichtscheidl, and More Set for NICE FISH at Guthrie Theatre

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its world premiere of Nice Fish by Mark Rylance and Louis Jenkins, dedicated to Nataasha van Kampen and James Hillman. The production will be directed by Rylance and Claire van Kampen (who also contributes original music) and will feature Rylance as Ron as well as actors Jim Lichtscheidl (Guthrie: Arms and the Man, The 39 Steps) as Eric, Emily Swallow (Guthrie: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, A Midsummer Night's Dream; Television: the upcoming TNT series "Monday Mornings") as Flo and Chris Carlson (Guthrie: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, God of Carnage) as Wayne in a humorous and mythic story based on Jenkins' prose poetry and taking place on the frozen waters of the Upper Midwest on the last day of ice fishing season. Nice Fish also features Bob Davis (Guthrie: Tales from Hollywood, Arsenic and Old Lace) as DNR Officer and Tyson Forbes (Guthrie: Peer Gynt, 1776) as Wainwright.

Theatre @ York Presents Francis Beaumont's THE KNIGHT OF THE BURNING PESTLE, Now thru 1/26

Theatre @ York presents a sparkling new adaptation of The Knight of the Burning Pestle, a hilarious parody by 17th century playwright Francis Beaumont, re-imagined for contemporary audiences by director Timothy Askew. Lavish period costumes, romance, treachery and sword-fighting lay siege to York University's Joseph G. Green Studio Theatre tonight, January 20 to 26.

Photo Flash: First Look at The Acting Company/Guthrie's Production of AS YOU LIKE IT

The Acting Company and the Guthrie Theater present a national tour of Shakespeare's As You Like It running from January through April 2013. Rehearsing in New York, performances began at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis on January 13 and will run through February 4 before leaving on a cross country tour to 29 cities in 22 states. It will play at New York's famed New Victory Theater March 1-10. Dan Rothenberg, Artistic Director of Philadelphia's Pig Iron Theatre has directed Shakespeare's lushly lighthearted comedy. The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its production of Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities. The production will be directed by Peter Rothstein and will feature actors Sally Wingert (Broadway/West End, London: La Bete, Guthrie: Appomattox, Charley's Aunt) as Polly Wyeth, Michelle Barber (Guthrie: Roman Holiday, Caroline, or Change) as Silda Grauman and David Anthony Brinkley (Guthrie: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Scottsboro Boys) as Lyman Wyeth in a contemporary and politically charged dramedy by the acclaimed playwright whose television credits include the compelling dramas "Brothers and Sisters" and "The West Wing."

Guthrie Theater Offers First-Ever 'Tweet Seats', Beginning Tonight at THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS

The Guthrie Theater today announced that beginning tonight, December 27, the theater will offer its first-ever 'Tweet Seats' during four consecutive Thursday performances of The Servant of Two Masters, allowing social media users an opportunity to interact during the show. A limited number of seats located in a balcony level of the McGuire Proscenium in a section that will not be disruptive to other patrons will be designated as Tweet Seats. Tweet Seat tickets are $15 and are available by calling the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, and mentioning 'Tweet.' Tickets are not available online, with other offers, or on previously purchased tickets. Handing fees may apply.

Guthrie Director Joe Dowling Announces Dowling Fellowship and 2012 Artistic Director's Award

Guthrie Theater Director Joe Dowling today announced actor/writer Matthew Amendt as the recipient of the first Joe Dowling Annaghmakerrig Fellowship Award. The fellowship is given to an established theater professional who is in some way associated with the Guthrie; the recipient is given the opportunity to benefit personally and professionally from the experience of spending two weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre on the estate of Annaghmakerrig, Guthrie's home in Ireland. The Center is a residential retreat for artists from around the globe, offering time and space in which to research, create or develop work.

The Guthrie Announces LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT Casting

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its production of Eugene O'Neill's semi-autobiographical masterwork Long Day's Journey into Night. For the first time in its 50-year history, the Guthrie will present this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning family drama under the direction of Artistic Director Joe Dowling. The production will star actors Peter Michael Goetz and Helen Carey in the roles of James and Mary Tyrone. James is an aging actor and Mary is his rambling, morphine-addicted wife-both struggle to helm a dysfunctional family racked by addiction, despair and festering guilt.

The Guthrie to Screen THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL, 12/15

The Guthrie Theater today announced a one-night screening of the 1992 family favorite film The Muppet Christmas Carol in the Dowling Studio at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 15. Seating will be general admission, and the film is recommended for ages 4 and up. Director Peter Flynn to Helm Guthrie's 50th Season Gala Performance BEHOLD, 6/22

The Guthrie today announced that BEHOLD, its 50th-anniversary one-time gala performance, will be directed by New York-based Peter Flynn, whose extensive credits include directorial work on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in regional theaters. BEHOLD, part of the Guthrie's anniversary weekend celebration, will combine classical text, music, original work, video and dance performed by artists to be announced in the months to come. The event will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2013.

The Guthrie today announced a slate of events taking place June 22-23, 2013, commemorating the theater's 50th season with options ranging from dinner and dance parties; BEHOLD, an original one-time gala performance; and a Community Celebration Day in which the Guthrie will open its doors for free all-ages activities, classes and behind-the-scenes access to the theater's inner workings. The Guthrie also announced the appointment of Jay Cowles, Margaret Wurtele and Charlie Zelle, the children of founders John Cowles Jr., Philip Von Blon and Louis Zelle as Honorary Chairs of its 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee.
