Beloved music and theater maestro John McDaniel has decided to have some fun online and it all starts Mother's Day at 3 pm EST

From growing up in a small northern California town to falling in love with her Mean Girls co- star, Ilana and Erika catch up on this episode of Little Known Facts in the time of #StayHome. From Brooklyn to a country cabin in New Jersey the two actresses figured out the remote podcast technology and Erika takes Ilana through her  Broadway debut in Les Miserables and working on the musical Diner and of course a deep deep dive into what it's like to work with Tina Fey, Sheryl Crow and all the other icons she has collaborated with. Little Known Facts- Erika was not hired the first time for Les Miz or  Mean Girls but  in her case the second time is a charm! This and so much more  with Erika Henningsen.

During this time when productions all over the world have been put on pause, we are coming together to celebrate plays that have left their mark on theater history. This week we will be focusing on the plays of Anton Chekhov. Today's play, The Seagull!

On Monday, February 10th The League of Professional Theatre Women (Shellen Lubin and Catherine Porter, Co-Presidents), an organization which has been championing women in the professional theatre for over three decades, hosted an Oral History Project event with renowned Broadway publicist Irene Gandy in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (111 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street). For the second installment of the Oral History Project's 2019-2020 season, publicist, producer, and PR maven Irene Gandy discussed her life and ground breaking career with producer Voza Rivers, Artistic Director of the New Heritage Theatre Group.

A producer cannot just license any property s/he wants. Yes, MAME is available for licensing on the Concord Theatricals website, but if I wanted to mount it on Broadway it would be a little more complicated than shelling out cash. Hurdles for non-professional productions are not substantial, but many professional productions require levels of permission. Jerry Herman, who passed away on December 26, 2019, was a man unlikely to give permission for professional productions of his shows unless he thought they would be good.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that actor John Karlen passed away earlier today at age 86 of congestive heart failure in hospice care in Burbank, California.

Musical Theatre Guild, the winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in the theatre, will continue their 24th Anniversary season with IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU. The one-night-only concert will take place at Glendale's historic Alex Theatre on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at 7:00 PM.
