710 Main Theatre presents the international sensation Joseph's Gospel making its U.S. premire in Buffalo. Joseph's Gospel - a touching comedy about parenthood as told from the unique perspective of Joseph of Bethlehem. A warm-hearted and intelligent spin on a familiar story, Joseph's Gospel is a divine comedy for parents everywhere. Starring Alan Safier, playing tonight, December 17-20 at the 710 Main Theatre in Buffalo.

BWW Review: A Poignant Memoir Takes the Stage with HOLIDAY MEMORIES at Avant Bard

Like a sepia-toned photo from the pages of a family album, Avant Bard's production of HOLIDAY MEMORIES evokes seasonal joys untouched by commercialism and cynicism - two mortal enemies of the true spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas, in my opinion. Taken from two personal short stories by the iconoclastic author Truman Capote, this stage adaptation deserves to become an annual tradition.

BWW Review: Sierra Madre Playhouse Makes the Musical of Truman Capote's A CHRISTMAS MEMORY a Sweet Experience

One of my very favorite Christmas stories of all time is A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote about his boyhood growing up with his eccentric cousin Sook Faulk. Geraldine Page played Sook in a 1966 telefilm, and it was later remade for television in the 80s with Patty Duke. It is the Page version that stays with me, having left a lasting impression of the woman, the era and its fierce impact on humanity. Playwright Duane Poole has fashioned a retelling of the story with music by Larry Grossman and lyrics by Carol Hall in a new musical version of A Christmas Memory, now onstage at the Sierra Madre Playhouse through December 27. On this intimate stage with the orchestra in full view behind the actors, the flavor of the original story is well preserved by Alison Eliel Kalmus' fine direction and with a terrific ensemble.

BWW Review: By Elegantly Examining Sexual Duality, David Vernon's Sensitive LOVE: THE CONCERT at the Metropolitan Room Is Singularly Enthralling

Strange, enchanted boy David Vernon swept through the Metropolitan Room last Thursday night, greeting guests on his way to the stage. He cut a dashing, old-world figure in his long, fitted coat and austere, angular posture. The man possesses style. Opening his show LOVE: The Concert with Eden Abhez's 1941 beauty 'Nature Boy,' Vernon wove lines of dialogue into the singing, telling the beginnings of the spare yet vivid tale he would unspool over the course of the evening; the story of his two true loves, both men, which also contained the revelation of his own dual identities--masculine and feminine.
