For the first time, Ovalhouse have programmed an incredible showcase of six new plays by their Young Associate Artists in dynamic double-bills for 'The Untold Season'.
On Thursday March 28th Ashley Griffin and Lori Petty received the WellLife Network Community Outreach and Partnership award for their work on the hit play Trial and its advocacy impact. Trial, a new play by Ashley Griffin(Snow, Twilight the Unauthorized Musical Parody), and directed by Lori Petty(Orange is New Black, A League of Their Own) tells the unique, provocative, story of a young woman waiting for her own judgment in the bureaucratic system of the afterlife where she finds herself in the role of judge and jury to determine the eternal fate of her father, the man responsible for her abuse and death. The play is inspired by a true story.
Popcorn Falls, playing now through May 5th at Tipping Point Theatre in Northville, is a fast-paced comedy that will keep the audience on their toes throughout the entire performance. The town of Popcorn Falls is in trouble as their signature waterfall has dried up and they are losing more money each day. The play's antagonist, Mr. Doyle, is threatening to turn this small town into a water treatment facility. There is one way to save the town: put on a successful play in one week. Hilarity ensues as the mayor of the town and the town's executive custodian, along with a cast of misfit townsfolk, attempt to pull off this play in an impossible time frame.

The NAACP today announced that globally dominant pop culture icon Shawn 'JAY-Z' Carter will receive the prestigious President's Award during the 50th NAACP Image Awards. Acclaimed pianist Winston Choi returns to the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) for two concerts with New Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Kirk Muspratt, Saturday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. The program will include Charles-Camille Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, featuring Choi, and Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 27. The program will open with New Philharmonic sharing the stage with members from the Glenbard West High School Honors Symphony Orchestra for a side by side performance of the third movement of George Bizet's "Allegro Vivace," conducted by New Philharmonic Associate Conductor Ben Nadel. A free MAC Chat will take place one hour prior to each performance.
