Rubicon Theatre continues the company's 21st "Coming of Age" season with the hilarious and harrowing, politically incorrect comedy FUDDY MEERS by playwright DAVID-LINDSAY-ABAIRE. In this outrageously funny roller-coaster ride of a play, Claire, an amnesiac. wakes up each day having forgotten the details of her life. This morning, like all mornings, her seemingly devoted husband Richard greets her with a cup of coffee and a scrapbook of memories. But when he steps away, a limping, lisping man claiming to be Claire's brother pops out from under her bed and says he is there to save her. He takes her to her mother's home in the country, where Claire meets a naive man with a foul-mouthed puppet, discovers her husband and son have kidnapped an aggressive lady cop, and comes face-to-face with her past.

BWW Review: Village's THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME is Curiously Inconsistent

K.I.S.S. It's the best advice you can give anyone in acronym form; meaning, Keep It Simple Stupid, and it's the mantra that the folks at Village Theatre should have taken to heart when attempting to stage Simon Stephens' brilliant play, 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time'. Now, you may say, 'But Jay, the Broadway and touring productions were anything but simple.' And that's true, but unless you can pull off that level of stage wizardry, then you need to go in another direction. Unfortunately, Village went in another direction but also kept everything quite complex throwing everything they could think of on stage, none of which really worked completely, resulting in a mish mash of inconsistencies and a play that didn't communicate what it should.

BWW Reviews: OIL at Olney Theatre Center - It's an American Premiere

Let me start this review with a comment by Olney's Artistic Director, Jason Loewith's comment in the program. 'After all my years in this business, many of them championing playwrights and new plays, it takes a lot to knock my socks off. I can count on two hands the experiences that reshaped by understanding of live theater and its possibilities. The world premiere of Ella Hickson's OIL in London two years was one of them. It is a blazingly, ambitious, as intellectually thrilling, as emotionally resonant as most the great works I've seen this century.'
