BWW Review: BLOOD BOUNDARY's Radiant Second Act Overcomes Awkward Opening

Somewhere in the second act of BLOOD BOUNDARY there is an interesting play to be found with alert performances and a powerful storyline that seamlessly resolves. Of course one has to sit through the long slog of act one's 'exposition mountain' to get to there.

A renowned dancer and choreographer (Mark Phillips Schwamberger) traveling towards an uncertain future is comforted by his young lover (Nick Hardin), an elite dance student. But he is haunted and challenged by the presence of a silent dancer (Tony White), seen only by him. A visit from his first love and college roommate (David Allen Vargo), a precious fun and memory-filled reunion ultimately threatens relationships and forces all to examine the fine line between the embrace and comfort of memories and the danger of living in the past, relying on illusion to avoid the future. Written by Kenneth Talberth, Directed by Dee Shepherd, Music by Russell Boiarsky, Choreography by Tony White. Transgender Take on PYGMALION Set for Brief Run Off-Broadway

The Off Broadway company, Always Love Lucy Theatre, has announced that it will present a bold new staging of George Bernard Shaw's PYGMALION, a classic tale of transformation, that will in this production spotlight the issue of Transgender identity - at a time when voices in support of trans rights are increasingly heard across the nation and the globe. The production will run 5 performances only, May 4 - May 8 at Theatre 54@ Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th Street, 12th Floor.

BLT to Stage TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

Bellevue Little Theatre, 203 W. Mission Ave., in Bellevue,  will present the classic the classic and timely  play 'To Kill a Mockingbird'  the week-ends of Nov. 6, 13, and 20. Performances are scheduled on Fri.  and Sat. evenings at 7:30 PM and Sun. afternoons at 2:00 PM.

Broken Heart Land, a Finalist in the 2012 Native American New Play Festival is a full-length play by Cherokee Nation playwright Vicki Lynn Mooney and directed by Tony White. Broken Heart Land is the heart wrenching story of Alma Wimsey, the mixed-blood daughter of a Cherokee father and white mother. At thirteen she is manipulated into an arranged marriage so that her white grandfather can gain control over her tribal land including the valuable railroad through Tulsa.

Broken Heart Land is the heart wrenching story of Alma Wimsey, the mixed-blood daughter of a Cherokee father and white mother. At thirteen she is manipulated into an arranged marriage so that her white grandfather can gain control over her tribal land including the valuable railroad through Tulsa. The story is one of love and power within the Native community during the devastating land grab by white interlopers in Oklahoma when it was still Indian Territory.

Bellevue Little Theatre is pleased to announce the opening and Midwest premiere of a new musical comedy, 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.' With a book by Jeffrey Lane and music and lyrics by David Yazbeck, this 'adult-oriented musical' will open at the BLT on Friday, March 18, running for three weekends and closing on Sunday, April 3.
