Irish Repertory Theatre (Charlotte Moore, Artistic Director, and Ciaran O'Reilly, Producing Director) announces its Annual Benefit Gala, THE SPECTACULAR SONGS OF LERNER AND LOWE, a one-night-only celebration of one of Broadway's most beloved musical duos, featuring songs from hit shows such as MY FAIR LADY, GIGI, CAMLEOT, PAINT YOUR WAGON, and BRIGADOON performed by a galaxy of Broadway stars. THE SPECTACULAR SONGS OF LERNER AND LOWE, written and directed by Charlotte Moore, will take place on Monday, June 9th at 7 PM at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street).

With a book by world-renowned Australian author Thomas Keneally(Schindler's List, the acclaimed book on which the Oscar-winning film is based) and music and lyrics by Larry Kirwan (founder of the iconic New York City band Black 47), Transport follows the uneasy ocean voyage of Irish women who were sentenced and then exiled to the relatively uninhabited south coast of Australia in the mid-19th Century.

'Possibility Junkie' is a new musical theater work by David Ippolito (music, lyrics, book) and directed by Gretchen Cryer ('I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It On the Road'), who co-authored the book. The story is based loosely on the career of David Ippolito, who is known to hundreds of thousands of people across the country and around the world as 'That Guitar Man from Central Park.' Part singer/songwriter, part storyteller, part social-commentator and humorist, Ippolito has become famous for his simple catch phrase, 'It's just us,' and his ability to turn a large crowd of strangers into a group of friends. Theater for the New City will present the world premiere tonight, September 28 to October 20, 2013.

Just yesterday, September 24, The Broadway League and The Coalition of Broadway Unions and Guilds (COBUG) presented the fifth annual Broadway Salutes, a celebration -- free and open to the public - which honors the countless professionals who have made Broadway great for decades. In this industry-wide event, which was held at the Times Square Visitor Center (1560 Broadway, between 46th and 47th Streets) in the heart of the theatre district, theater professionals received special recognition for having worked 25, 35, and 50 years in their respective theatrical craft. The American Theatre Wing (William Ivey Long, Chair; Heather Hitchens, Executive Director) announced today that its annual gala, held last night at the Plaza Hotel, was the most successful in the organization's history, raising nearly $700,000 (besting the previous record, which was set in 2012, by approximately $100,000). All proceeds from the evening will benefit the education and outreach programs of the American Theatre Wing, which include SpringboardNYC, the Theatre Intern Group, the National Theatre Company Grants and the Jonathan Larson Grants, and will also support free access for students, aspiring professionals, and the general public to programming on AmericanTheatreWing.org, including the long running television show 'Working in the Theatre.'

The Dan's Papers $6,000 Literary Prize for Non Fiction contest is racing toward its conclusion. Entrants write short pieces between 600 and 1,500 words that reference eastern Long Island in a meaningful way. They enter them at the danspapers.com website. The final deadline for entries is approaching. The last day we will accept entries tonight, July 31 at midnight. Three prizes will be awarded, two for $500 for runners-up, and one prize for $5,000 for the First Prize winner. Those intending to enter have two weeks to do so!
