Trinity Rep announced today that former artistic director and Academy-award nominated film, stage and TV actor Richard Jenkins and his wife Director/Choreographer Sharon Jenkins will be honored with the 2014 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The theater also announced that nationally known dance educator and choreographer Mary Paula Hunter will receive the 2014 Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts. The 18th annual Pell Awards will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library.

One of the many great aspects of Rhode Island's theater community is the presence of companies and artists who are willing to take some risks. They don't always play it safe. They don't just do shows that are easy or simple or uncomplicated. There are at least a few area theaters that frequently put on productios of complicated, difficult, disturbing or thought-provoking works. Artistic Director Tony Estrella has announced that The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) has closed its 2012-2013 season with the highest ticket sales in its 28-season history, and a balanced operating budget for the fiscal year ending June 30.
The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) has received a prestigious $25,000 Shakespeare in American Communities grant to perform its Season 29 production of Macbeth (March 6-April 13, 2014) to students from at least 10 Pawtucket, Central Falls and Providence public and charter schools, free of charge or at a greatly reduced cost. The award will also help pay for accompanying educational activities including in-school residencies, workshops and post-performance discussions.
A partner in the Providence law firm of Hinckley Allen, Boghossian joined the Gamm board in 2008, most recently serving as vice president and co-chair of the development committee. As the newly elected president, he succeeds Samuel F. Babbitt who is relocating with his wife to New Haven, Connecticut.
