The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) today announced the date, creative team, host and venue for the 37th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, the awards show and party that celebrates extraordinary Toronto talent in the performing arts. Dora Awards Producer Jacoba Knaapen announced that the much-anticipated event will take place on Monday, June 27 and that it will, for the third time in a row, be held under the stars at Harbourfront Centre. Tickets go on sale May 31.
Chicago's Halcyon Theatre announces its 2016-17 season bursting with premieres and co-productions. The lineup includes: Maria Irene Fornes' Fefu and Her Friends (Aug. 18 - Oct. 8), Debbie Tucker Green's dirty butterfly (Nov. 3 - Dec. 10, a co-U.S. premiere with Edgewater-based The Blind Owl), and the Chicago premiere of Marisela Treviño Orta's The River Bride (May 11 - June 18, 2017). A fourth show is to be announced in co-production with Chicago-based A-Squared Theatre Workshop for the spring 2017 slot. Halcyon Theatre, located in residence at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3253 W. Directed by Jennifer Adams, Co-Founder of Halcyon Theatre, the company closes its 10th Anniversary season with this dark dramedy that captures the lies a family tells themselves. The cast of Dreams of the Penny Gods features Denise Hoeflich, Robert N. Isaac, Ted James, Shadana Patterson and Caity-Shea Violette. Dreams of the Penny Gods runs March 24 - May 1 at Halcyon Theatre, in residence at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3253 W. Wilson Avenue. The official opening night performance is Thursday, March 31, at 8pm; the running time is approx. 110 minutes with one intermission.

The panel will address social issues facing young Latina women as reflected in Estrella Cruz, including young motherhood. The expert panel features Maureen Mena, Association of Latino Professionals for America board member; Tamika Lechee Morales, Halcyon Theatre company member (and Estrella Cruz cast member); and Yesenia Villaseñor, Assistant General Counsel at Exelon Corporation. Tony Adams, the veteran film and stage producer whose credits include Blake Edwards' Pink Panther hits, S.O.B. '10,' and the film and stage versions of Victor/Victoria died Saturday, October 22nd, of a stroke at Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan. He was surrounded by family and friends. He was 52 years old.
