MSM Announces NYC's First-Ever Conservatory Program in Musical Theater

At Manhattan School of Music's 2015 gala tonight, which honored Bebe Neuwirth and welcomed special guests Angela Lansbury, Barbara Cook, Marlo Thomas, Phil Donahue, and Tommy Tune in the Broadway Melody at the Rainbow Room, MSM President James Gandre announced that, beginning in fall 2016, MSM will become the first-ever independent music conservatory in New York (and only the second in the country) to offer a degree program in musical theater.
13th Street Rep Celebrates Ray DeMattis' 50th Anniversary in the Biz

The 13th Street Repertory Theater celebrated veteran stage/film/TV actor Ray DeMattis' 50th anniversary in the business -- honoring his lifetime achievements -- by proclaiming May 10th 'Ray DeMattis Day.' DeMattis was presented with a framed certificate of honor by one of his proteges -- Michael J.C. Anderson, an actor with the 13th Street Rep. And DeMattis, in turn, presented the first annual 'Ray DeMattis Award,' honoring young artists-to-watch, to actors Cody Jordan and John Brady, co-stars of Chip Deffaa's musical-comedy success 'Mad About the Boy.' They each received a plaque, a copy of a cast album featuring DeMattis ('Flora the Red Menace'), and a $100.00 honorarium.

The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), celebrating a quarter century of creating community through American tap and contemporary percussive arts through innovative performance, education and outreach programs, welcomes 10-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune at its 25th Anniversary Jubalee Gala. This special evening, hosted by WGN's Dean Richards, takes place July 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 220 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago.

Den Anfang macht im Oktober der Klassiker SINGIN' IN THE RAIN im Musiktheater Volksgarten, gefolgt von HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH im Blackbox Theater. Im neuen Jahr ist dann im Schauspielhaus Promenade zum ersten Mal in Österreich GRAND HOTEL zu erleben. Den Abschluss macht dann das Sondheim Erfolgsmusical INTO THE WOODS - AB IN DEN WALD, das ab April im Musiktheater Volksgarten zu sehen sein wird.

While the sky may have been a little cloudy, the stars were shining bright at The Hobby Center as Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) celebrated the 13th Annual Tommy Tune Awards showcasing Houston's extraordinary and remarkable high school musical theatre talent. Sarofim Hall was practically filled to the brim, with over 400+ students, their directors and choreographers, and parents and friends. The nerves and excitement could hardly be ignored, as everyone sat in anticipation for the show to start. As Caroline Timm, Assistant Manager of PR & Marketing put it, 'this show is like the Tonys for these kids.' As the lights went down, the entire room burst out in applause and cheers, which would stop only momentarily throughout the night.
