NEWSIES plays its final performance on Broadway this coming Sunday, August 24, but BroadwayWorld (and the rest of New York, we hope) isn't ready to let the musical leave just yet! Throughout the week, we continue the Newsies love by bringing you favorite memories from a slew of the current and past stars of the show!
A great, big Broadway season is on its way, with fourteen productions already slated to open in the next few months. With several weeks until the craziness begins, there is still plenty of time to catch up on what's been going on at Broadway's already occupied theaters . This Just In! Intended initially for a limited run, and turning into a 2+ year hit, Newsies, featuring a score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, will play its final performance at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre onS unday, August 24, 2014 prior to launching its national tour in October. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, Newsies is directed by Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli.

The Broadway League will soon launch KIDS' NIGHT ON BROADWAY, Monday, February 24, 2014 to Sunday, March 2, 2014. KIDS' NIGHT ON BROADWAY is an audience development program created by The Broadway League to make theatre accessible, encourage theatre as a form of family entertainment, and build larger audiences for the future. New York's hottest composers have gotten into bed with lyricist Alex Rubin for her premiere concert, Lyric Tramp: The Songs of Alex Rubin. The concert, which will feature Alex Rubin's lyrics, paired with the music of 8 different composers, will take place on Monday, December 16, 2013 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 W. 42 St, New York, NY).
Chinese Mother Jewish Daughter Productions will present a developmental reading of Madame: The Musical on October 10 at Ripley-Grier Studios. The work was previously developed at the New York Musical Theater Festival's inaugural reading series in 2012.
Stars and casts from the current Broadway line-up have been busy in the studio, recording for the 2013 Broadway's Carols for a Cure, Volume 15. Singing traditional and original holiday songs, this annual holiday music CD benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), one of the nation's leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. Newsies is currently in its second year on Broadway and is still bringing audiences to their feet nightly at the Nederlander Theatre. They were thrown into the fire in 'Half Hour 3: A Last Minute Concert,' a show where even they didn't know what they'd be singing before they stepped up to the microphone. Check out highlights below!

The ruby red slippers worn by Judy Garland are on view at the Smithsonian.'
