Kumiko Mendl, founding member of leading British East and South East Asian (BESEA) theatre company New Earth Theatre, has announced her decision to step down from her role as Artistic Director after 11 years, leaving the company in 2024. 

In 1995, Yellow Earth Theatre was formed by five British East Asian (BEA) actors: Kwong Loke, Kumiko Mendl, Veronica Needa, David KS Tse and Tom Wu - aiming to develop work that would give BEA actors more choice of roles, and to bring together Western drama school training with exploration of East Asian cultural heritage. Mendl became Artistic Director in 2011, and the company is now celebrating 25 years.

Two of Britain's leading theatre companies, Extant and Yellow Earth have joined forces to present an ambitious exciting new play called Flight Paths. The production will tour the UK in spring 2019, from Tuesday 5 February starting at Harlow Playhouse Theatre and ending on Tuesday 5 March at The Arena, Wolverhampton.  The Press Night is Friday 8 February, 7pm at Stratford Circus, Theatre Square, London, E15 1BX.

The action-packed CINEMAX drama series STRIKE BACK kicks off its sixth season, FRIDAY, JAN. 25 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT). Shot entirely in Malaysia, the new season features returning stars Warren Brown (“Luther,” “The Dark Knight Rises”), Daniel MacPherson (“A Wrinkle in Time”) and Alin Sumarwata (“Neighbours,” “Burning Man”), along with new cast members Jamie Bamber (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Monday Mornings”) and Yasemin Allen (“Water and Fire”).

Netflix has canceled MARCO POLO following two seasons. The Weinstein Company-produced series premiered in 2014, with its second season debuting earlier this year.
