It is based on both the 1956 film The Catered Affair written by Gore Vidal and the original 1955 teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, set in 1953 in the Bronx. John Doyle directed the production, which starred Fierstein, Faith Prince and Tom Wopat.

Obie Award-winner Trip Cullman directs the play, which won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1951. In addition to Marisa Tomei who stars as the grieving widow Serafina and Christopher Abbott as the hot-blooded trucker Alvaro, Rosenblat will be joining her 'Orange Is the New Black' costar Constance Shulman. Rosenblat received international recognition for her portrayal of cancer-stricken inmate Miss Rosa, while Shulman plays Yoga Jones on that popular Netflix program.

Broadway and Symphony Pop Siren N'Kenge joins the All Star Cast at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center (APAC) which will host a Funk-Raising evening to benefit the development of 54: the musical, the first project selected for its new works initiative.
